T-Minus Four...

...and counting...

This is the last update before our 2nd Annual (?!?!) Northeast Blogger Shoot (alt. title: Meat, Greet, & Skeet). Previous updates can be found here, here, here, here, here, and here (please heed the request for e-mails, Lissa and zeeke42...) all set, thanks everyone!

Here is the final list of participants:

Bloggers:
Marko
Liisa
TOTWTYTR
Liberty
JD

Weer'd Beard
Bruce

Commenters:

For any who may be interested (Bruce, Weer'd, I think you guys are the closest), I've got room in the truck for at least a couple of passengers. I'm on the North Shore, so anyone coming from the eastern side of MA/lower NH is more than welcome to park @ my house and ride out with me (it's about an hour, considering that I will be carrying enough ordnance and ammo to conquer Canada and will therefore be traveling at exactly the speed limit the whole way...)

Everyone is exhorted to bring their own bug spray, beverages (bring lots of water, as it's supposed to be hot on Sunday), chairs, and, most importantly if you're not a shooter, shooting gear. At the very least, pick up some disposable ear plugs; ideally get yourself a decent set of headphone-type muffs. Also, if you don't have sturdy eyeglasses or sunglasses, please invest in some eye protection.

Targets should be either biodegradable (read: watermelon, etc.) or easily cleaned up (cans, plastic bottles, etc.) NO GLASS - no computer monitors, old TVs, etc. If you've got an old washing machine that you'd like to riddle with bullets, feel free to bring it - as long as you pack it out at the end... I'll be bringing a stack of paper targets as well as some laundry detergent jugs filled with water, but those go quick, so... Milk jugs and 2L soda bottles are quick and inexpensive reactive targets when filled with water (please fill before-hand, as there's no water near the range).

Also, if anyone has camera/video equipment I'd be more than grateful. I've got a couple of ideas I'd like to get on video, and would appreciate it if someone could run video for a few minutes when we get a moment. I'll be bringing my camera and tripod, but the more the merrier. Plus my battery doesn't last very long...

An e-mail will go out shortly with directions to the whole group (at least those I have e-mail addresses for, hint hint...). We're getting together at 10 and shooting until we get thrown out or fall over from heat exhaustion, so plan on a long (but fun!) day.

Ordnance can be found in one of the updates, as well as comments for several updates. I'm planning on bringing extra for everything I've got, but if you want to bring extra ammo, I'd say that 7.62X39mm (AK/SKS), 7.62X54mmR (Mosin Nagant M44 and M91/30), 12 gauge, 20 gauge, and pistol ammo (9mm, .38 Special, and .45 ACP) would be the safest bet.

E-mail's open for any questions. Also, if for any reason your name is on the list and you can't make it, please let me know ASAP. Thanks!

That is all.

I'd definetly like to take you up on the carpool option, Jay. Weather you like it or not I will give gas monies.

Oh and I got lots of skeet loads at the shop yesterday but they didn't have any clay birds. I don't know how long a box of clays will last, but if somebody can grab one with me in mind I'll pay my way.

I'm wicked exicited about this!

Swwwweeeeeet!

Jay, I'll be bringing the handicam camcorder and a digital camera. I also have a couple of fairly-quick-to-set-up tent-like things for some shade, an extra chair or three, etc. Additionally, a big ole cooler with plenty of ice and bottled water. Maybe a Moxie or two. ;-)

I'm heading down from waaaay up North NH, so if anyone's on or around 91 or 93, I've got plenty of room in the Dad bus and I'm more than happy to swing by and pick up. It's going to be a long ride.

Weer'd,

You got it. I'll e-mail you directions later today - which is easier for you to get to, 93 or 95?

95 is easier directions...

Liberty,

I'm pretty sure Marko's along that route. I can send him a note if you want to get in touch with him...

Done and done. Is Wally-world the best place to grab ear protection?

Jay G said...

Lissa,

Wal-Mart's where I got my ear protection.

You can get the plugs or a set of muffs. I've got an extra set of muffs if you don't want to spend the $$$, but a box of disposable foam plugs is like $2.

I didn't get an e-mail yet, though. Did you send to the stuckinmassachusetts@comcast.net address?

Anonymous said...

Hey Jay ... I sent him an email. Thanks!

I thought I did! Well, it's lookingforlissa@gmail.com, anyway :)

I'm in Wakefield, so I can do either, so give me whatever involves the lest turns and crazy intersections!

Thanks!

Oh and I have a HUGE bottle of foam earplugs. Anybody is welcome to them. I should have more than enugh. I'll bring a few extra Muffs too.

I'll be bringing my Ruger 10/22 LTR, Ruger Mk3 with ultradot, Browning Hi power 9mm, M&P 9 compact, and my SW1911PD Gunsight if I can get the parts to fix it in time. The mag release spring and the doodad that holds it in went MIA at the range yesterday.

To whoever it was that asked about sighting in a 10/22, I can help with that. I have tech sights on mine and learned how to use them at an Appleseed shoot.

I'll bring some paper targets and maybe some bottles/jugs. Does the range have target stands, or should I build and bring something?

I forgot to add. To newbies looking for ear protection, if you plan to shoot regularly, I highly recommend electronic muffs. They make it much easier to hear talking on the line. Dicks sports sells decent ones for around $30.

weer'd,

95 is much easier. Directions to my house to follow in e-mail later...

zeeke42,

A Hi-Power? Excellent!

The range has a large plywood backstop that targets can be stapled or tacked to. Jugs are always good.

Try to get Marko to reconsider quitting his blog, Jay.

I'll see what I can do, T-Bolt. I'm pretty bummed, too, but I can totally grok his reasons...

I didn't see Marko's hiatus message until it was mentioned here, as it didn't go out via RSS. I'll definitely miss his writing. I've been looking forward to meeting him since you announced this shoot. I was sad to read of his hiatus and even sadder to see who instigated the last straw.

I'll bring my rather pedestrian collection: the two 3" K-frames, and the shorty Enfield No.4. I also have about 500 rounds of reloads that need to be turned into empty brass, so I can start reloading again.

Does anyone have one of those really long screwdrivers that will reach a stock screw from the little door in the butt plate? The Enfield's stock is starting to wiggle a tiny bit, and I don't have a screwdriver that'll reach.

I'd like to do a video of a side-by-side comparison of a pump action shotgun and an AR-15, both putting holes in an old car hood, to show the AWB wankers that there's nothing special about the rate at which an AR-15 can "turn police cars in to swiss cheese". Give each shooter five seconds to put as money holes as possible in it.

Unknown said...

If you use buckshot, you'll make far more holes with the shotty than with the AR.

Jay G said...

All I can say to that idea is "Where can we get a car hood???"

zeeke42,

That was me with the 10/22 sight in request. I'll be sure to bring it along.

Marko,

I don't have a screw driver that long, but I've got something that will work. I'll bring that along too.

I also have head space gauges for Enfield and M-N rifles, if anyone needs to use them.

Jay Stop by a walmart automotive section and spend the 18 dollars for a 100 watt power inverter. I use one for my laptop in the burb, and the black and decker one I bought also has a 5 volt USB plug for my daughter cellphone and mp3 player. You can use it for your camera, and if you take an extension cord you can recharge the battery while on the firing line if necesary.
