Putting Idiots In Their Place - How It's Done...

In response to my "Speechless" post, reader "rocking h" sends in this story:
A friend pointed my to the video you posted on the Marooned Blog – I had a similar “incident “here in Austin Texas with a PRIUS driving tree-hugger. My truck is too long to fit in most shopping center parking spots. I had a women swing in to the spot in front of me with her PRIUS and damn near impale her car on my front hitch receiver ball.

She went on a similar rant and – I don’t know what possessed me to do this but – I said, “But lady, it’s a hybrid”, at which point all her energy was instantly defused - "Oh really - OK then", and she got back in her car and found another space.
Here's "rocking h"s truck:

Big truck!

(and please, no comments on "Government Motors" - the man was kind enough to share!)

This worked so well that the very next day I went to my local GMC dealer and ordered real GM Hybrid badges – I now have the world’s only 9700 lbs Hybrid truck. Picture attached. I have actually had a couple of idiots ask me how I like driving a Hybrid. “Their great – I regularly tow 12,000 lbs with mine”, I say.

See? Hybrid!

Awesome. Simply awesome.

That is all.

When my dad died he wanted me to have his H2 Hummer. I was driving it home from Georgia to Texas and stopped late at night to get gas. While I was filling up the lady in a beater Toyota came up to me and said "those don't get very good mileage, do they?" I replied "no ma'am, they don't"
"well do you think that is very responsible?"
"Beg pardon?"
"To be driving that when we have crisis' in the environment, in the economy etc. Can you tell me one good thing about that vehicle?"
"Yes ma'am. If we have a head-on I will walk away and you won't"

She got mad and left. At the next pit stop another guy came up to me and said "Them don't get very good mileage do they?" I figured here we go again as I replied "No sir, they don't." Then he grins at me and said "But dang, they sure are fun. I am waiting to take delivery on mine!"

But I thought only the Gooberment was allowed to lie about Gas Efficiency? After all, how many years did we hear about the ALL Electric Gooberment Motors VOLT before they had to admit it was just a Hybrid?

Meanwhile, 50 MPG+ Volkswagen Diesels that use ONLY Clean Fuel can't get the Tax Incentives of the Hybrids.....

McThag: Yeah you do!

Hell Jay you should swing by a Toyota Dealership and put a badge on your Earthfucker that doesn't even match the stable that your truck was born from!

BTW I thought about the same thing back in the 90s when I was driving an I-4 Ranger that couldn't get out of its own way. That was when the F-150s had the "Triton V-10" badges on their side.

I thought about getting one for my little Ranger with the Ford Pinto Motor under the hood...

If you are going to drive a GMC Earthfu*#er you should do it with pride not hide in the closet. :)

How about a logo that says "HYBRID" in nice, leafy, Earth-friendly greens... with small print underneath that says "my daddy was a coal miner, my mom kills trees for fun". Then, when people compliment you on driving a Hybrid, you can smile and think: it's not your fault if people don't read the fine print...

Awesome story, Jay! Thanks for sharing. (And admit it -- you want one of those for your truck. You know you do.)

We need the GM part number for those Hybird badges.

I have an Xterra that needs those...

In the true sense of the word it is a "Hybrid Vehicle", in that it is not a pure pick up (load carrier with driver plus one assistant) or a 4/5 person passenger car, but rather a hybrid of the two, for conveing people and / or loads. Thus a true hybrid vehicle, rather than just a hybrid engined vehicle.
This is of course an environmentally friendly approach as one vehicle replaces two and thus the embedded manufacturing energy input is therefore nominally halved and that is in fact a very significant portion of many vehicles total energy consumption. Is a crew cab pick up in fact the most environmentally freindly approach to vehicle manufacture ? :)
Also as a diesel engined vehicle it can be made to run on true mineral oil sourced diesel, bio-diesel or pure vegatable oil (some adjusting may be needed and some temperature limitations may apply). Or a mixture of these, i.e. it is a Hybrid fuel vehicle as well. Indeed a lot of "diesel" sold is actually a hybrid with veggie input anyway.
Perhaps it is time to retake possession of the word "Hybrid" from the ecomentalists ?

The prime parking slot at the local "we're pretending to be pretentious and cool" coffee shop/ book emporium is labeled "Reserved for Hybrids." Just after the sign went up, my dad sauntered in and inquired if they had many mules parking there. The guy behind the counter almost dropped two coffees, he was laughing so hard. The little gal didn't get the joke. That space is open 99% of the times I've been by there.

And I want to see if I can get one of those tags for my Tacoma!
