In a few months, I'll be eligible to win any of these items. It's a weird feeling, freedom. For years I've been enviously scouring the list, looking for the MA-approved handguns and ban-compliant rifles. It's all going to end soon, as I put the Volksrepublik of Massachusetts behind me for the greener pastures of another Commonwealth. Warmer in many ways, from the climate itself to the acceptance of the Second Amendment, the two Commonwealths could not be more different.
I think I'm going to like this one much better...

Make With The Clickety!
Aaron has the monthly round-up of gun contests.
There are a LOT of contests running right now, a lot of quality firearms available to be won. I think we're starting to see somewhat of a return to normal, where guns are starting to show back up on shelves at something resembling normal prices. I've seen lower parts kits for under $40 (minus pistol grip) - but more importantly, they're in stock.
Ammo is slowly but surely showing back up on shelves, at prices that aren't *too* much worse than they were ten months ago. Sure, it's not the $9/box of 550 rounds of .22LR from the mid-2000s, but neither is gasoline $2/gallon any more, either. Some of us bought a lot of ammo when it was cheap, figuring that it could only get more expensive - and it did.
So, go enter the contests - and pick up a box of ammo when you can, too!

I've had the good pleasure of meeting Tom, and he's just as humorous and down-to-earth in real life as he appears on his award-winning blog My Gun Culture. Lots Of Stuff to Win!
Aaron has the monthly roundup of gun- and related contests for July.
The pistol giveaways are almost exclusively small, concealable handguns. It's interesting to see LC9s, M&P Shields, and Springfield XDs being offered as prizes - with more and more folks interested in firearms for self-defense, it's only natural that those would be a big draw. Ditto the modern sporting rifles up for grabs in the rifle section - the AR-15 pattern rifle is still the hottest thing going, and the number of companies hoping to lure your eyeballs their way with an AR-15 giveaway is getting bigger and bigger.
All this at a time when the CSGV and MAIG are telling us that gun ownership is on the decline? I don't buy it, not for a second. Companies wouldn't be offering up thousand dollar rifles and $500 handguns if they didn't think there was a big enough return on investment. If it wasn't bringing people to their site, they wouldn't be trying to give it away - TANSTAAFL, remember?
So, go, support these groups, check out the free stuff, and hopefully win something!

There's a grand total of two MA-legal handguns in the entire listing. What's more notable, though, is that the list of places where folks can't own a good number of the rifles is growing. That's unfortunate, to say the least - while CT and NY aren't exactly surprising, MD was a kick in the teeth, and CO even more so. Still not as bad as MA, mind you, but it's disheartening to see states go from more freedom to less...
In any case, hopefully you're in a better place and can win one of these prizes...

Winnin' From Clickin'...
It's time for Aaron's monthly round-up of guns, ammo, & gear giveaways.
Looks like there's a couple misplaced contests (even with a pistol grip, the Mossberg 500 isn't a pistol!), but overall looks pretty good. Lots of stuff that can be won, including some ammo giveaways! Imagine that - ammo that you can't find in stores (.22LR) but you can win it - madness, I know!
One of the giveaways is a new North American Arms Sidewinder .22LR revolver. I gotta tell you, folks, this gun ranks way high on the list of little guns I'd like to get my hands on. I've got one of their original NAA-mini 22s, and while it's a lot of fun on the range, I'd be real hesitant to carry it as anything other than a back-up to my back-up. Not only is it .22LR, but the loading requires the cylinder be removed from the frame - very time consuming. A swing-out cylinder is a huge step in the right direction for the NAA as a back-up.

Monthly Gun Contests

Looking at the list, the first thing that jumps out at me is that there are no MA-compliant handguns whatsoever this month. There's a whole bunch of AR-15s and lowers and uppers on the rifle section, though - why pay 4-10X the going rate for one when you could win it here? Of course, there's also a whole bunch of cool gear you could win, too. But you can't win if you don't click, so hope to it!

It's always interesting, for someone trapped behind the red curtain in MA, to play the "how many of these guns could I win" game. I run down the list of handguns looking for ones that I know to be on the MA roster (only the Ruger SR1911 on this month's list) and the rifles looking for AWB-compliant arms (tough to say; most of the AR-15s could be made compliant). At least the lone shotgun could be mine!
Anyways, most of you live in America, so go check the list out and maybe possibly win something!

As always, I have to look at most of the contests from afar - even if I won them, I couldn't take possession of non-compliant handguns or rifles. As an interesting aside, I am technically incapable of accepting one of the Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraising prizes - the Taurus is not an "approved" firearm, so if I were to win that package I couldn't keep the PT111. Such is life behind the red curtain, as it were. But most of you are not so constrained, so go, click, and (maybe) win!

I was digging in my safe today trying to find a particular piece of paper, and realized I had an inordinate amount of loose ammo rolling around. So I gathered it up into one container.
