Ten Days...

In ten short days, the Fourth Annual Kilted to Kick Cancer Fundraiser begins. A whole month of kilty goodness, yay! (and it finally kicks me in the behind to FINALLY make good on some photos I am woefully remiss in providing. Mea culpa!)

The big news is that KTKC is now its own non-profit organization, so that tax-deductible donations can be made directly to KTKC itself. No more middlemen, every cent you donate goes directly to prostate cancer research through the good folks at Kilted to Kick Cancer. I know some folks have been reluctant to donate, given the practices of some companies that accept donations and all, so this year there's no questions.

Ambulance Driver is seeking donations for the top fundraisers, so if anyone has any leads, give him a holler and help him out.

That is all.

Help A Brother Out...

My brother-from-another-mother Jeff B. has a pretty amazing post about a pretty amazing guy.

There's a scholarship established to honor the man in the post. Jeff B. is asking if folks could donate toward the scholarship fund in honor of a fellow EMT. I know from the law enforcement community that first responders are a tight, tight group and will do anything for one of their own. Jeff has asked for linky-love to get his fellow EMT additional recognition for his selfless act.

And, you know, the scholarship is a pretty darn good way to do that...

Please give if you can; I'd consider it a kindness.

That is all.

Mean What You Say, Say What You Mean...

*sigh*...

I don't know WHAT I was thinking...
So, here's mine. If I reach my goal, I will attend the Flintlock 3-Gun shoot in VA next month hosted by my #1 blogdaughter. She has already agreed (and cackled maniacally) to set me up as a pirate wench for a photoshoot, complete with stays, shifts, and even something called "Harriet". I was afraid to ask. She was laughing too loud to hear me anyways. All I made out was something called a "bum roll". Apparently my pirate wench has it going on in the ... wait for it ... booty.

There you go. "Jay G. the pirate wench" if I meet my goal. You know I'll do it, too.

Like the title of this post says... I'll put the picture behind the fold. Trust me, you really have to WANT to see this. Once seen, it cannot be unseen.

You have been warned...

Not Putting the Kilt Away Yet...

Erin's running a fundraiser to help out Squeaky pay her medical bills.

I've offered custom kilt poses for donations (and Erin flatters me by placing the donation amount at $20 - trust me, I'll whip up a pose for other donations as well), so if you didn't get enough kilted goodness last month, drop a few shekels in the bucket for Squeaky and I'll see what I can pull together.

(I freakin' LOVE this shot, and it's just so fitting here, no?)

While it's not exactly difficult to get me to wear a kilt, I'm glad to do it to help a friend out. If you can spare a few dollars to help Squeaky cover her medical bills, that would be great. Plus you get a chance to win some really cool items (even if ponies aren't your bag, there's some great stuff there).

Head to Erin's to check it out!

That is all.

And The Winners Are...

Well, last night I held the drawing for all of the prize packages. And by "held the drawing" I mean "created an Excel spreadsheet *way* more complicated than it needed to be and then ran it through Random.org for the winner". Without further ado, here are the people you should all envy...
  • Prize Package 1a, the Pirate Action Playset: Kurt S.
  • Prize Package 1b, the Indian Action Playset: Spike from GBC
  • Prize Package 2, the LC9 laser sight: commenter and Northeast Bloggershoot attendee Dave H.
  • Prize Package 3, the Multi-Fun Pack: Cheryl of Brauista.
  • Prize Package 4, the York Arms AR-15 lower: Wandering Neurons
  • Prize Package 5, the .22LR ammo: Stretch
  • Prize Package 6, the "Time on your hands" package: Mike M.
Let's have a wonderful round of applause for our lucky winners! Thanks to everyone who donated money to Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraiser, as well as the people who donated the awesome prizes!

And only 11 more months until we do it all over again!

That is all.

2013 KIlted To Kick Cancer Fundraiser Recap

Ambulance Driver has an excellent recap of the 2013 KTKC fundraiser.

Well, as the kilts are put away for another year:

We see the end to another year's Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraiser. $12,000 our first year. Double that our second. We had hoped to double yet again, but I think the economy just didn't permit folks that kind of discretionary income. Over the course of three months (September 2011, 2012, and 2013), we've managed to collect over $50,000 for prostate cancer research. Not bad for a motley assembly of gun- and EMS- bloggers...

I'd like to thank everyone that contributed prizes for my portion of the KTKC fundraising challenge:

  • The Amazing Dr. Mike, my red-headed blog stepchild, for the awesome Pirate and Indian Action Playsets.
  • The good folks at LaserLyte, for the LC9 laser and the pistol bayonets and shotgun mount.
  • The good folks at Tapco for the forend grip.
  • Glenn B., for adding to both the multi-fun pack and the time on your hands prize package.
  • York Arms, for a one-of-a-kind custom AR-15 lower.
  • Bruce, for the still-incredibly-hard-to-find .22LR.
  • Gallery of Guns for the LaserLyte Training pistol and LT-Pro.

Also, I went through my spreadsheet for ticket allocations, and I still have over a dozen folks that have not told me their allocations. I thought I had responded to everyone that sent in a notice, but I had a few folks send in e-mails that I'd already allocated. Apologies if I forgot to send a notice. If you haven't told me your allocations, I'll leave it open through today to get replies in. I'll pick the winners tonight and have them posted tomorrow.

Thanks again to everyone who gave prizes and everyone who donated - I think we all win here!!!

That is all.

A Word About KTKC and Prizes...

Regardless of who wins the Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraising challenge, three things are certain:

1. We will have raised a lot of money for cancer research (over $10K this year, yay!) as well as awareness of Prostate cancer.

2. Someone will be wearing a football jersey that is not of their chosen team.

and

3. Six lucky people will be the recipient of one of these fabulous prizes.

I have a bunch of wonderful, generous folks that have donated a lot of money to the Prostate Cancer Foundation (tax deductible, remember - save those receipts and donation letters!). Most folks have told me which prize package or packages they would like their "tickets" to go towards; however I still have a fair number of folks that have not indicated where they would like their tickets allocated.

I've got 18 donors as yet unallocated. I have tried to respond to all e-mails with allocation requests, but things have been pretty hectic on this end. If I have not responded to your allocation request, or if perhaps you haven't made it, please send me a quick e-mail (stuckinmassachusetts - at - comcast dot net) and let me know how you want your tickets allocated. Even if you don't want to take a chance at the lovely prizes (i.e. pure altruism, thank you), please shoot me a quick note to let me know so I can stop worrying about missing someone...

And, if anyone wants in at the last minute, you can do that here:

As always, thanks to everyone who has or is thinking about donating, and a special thank you to the folks that gave prizes as incentives!

That is all.

Kilted Picture, Day Thirty

Well, today's the last day of the 2013 Kilted to Kick Cancer Fundraiser. Thirty days of kilty goodness have been had; wagers have been made; personal humiliation has been promised; and both funds and awareness have been raised. I know this year I've spent a lot more time telling people why I'm wearing a kilt rather than just taking pictures, so I count that as a win.

Good friend, former blogger, retired NH State representative, donor of one of my prize packages, and all-around good guy Bruce and I went to the range yesterday. In kilts. Many evil orange clays were slain (seriously. We went through an entire case of clays. In about 20 minutes. Side note: .223 Remington is AWESOME for orange clays...). And yes, that *is* a peace sign on Bruce's driveway. I didn't judge...

All month long I've been wearing my kilt and posting kilted pictures as part of Kilted to Kick Cancer. As we've done in years past, there's a friendly competition running to see who can raise the most money for prostate cancer research. As I did last year, I have a pretty awesome array of prizes that can be won as well as a challenge to meet my goal! for incentives to donate to the Prostate Cancer Foundation on my behalf. Which you can do here:

Kilted Picture, Day Twenty Nine

Yesterday's King Richard Faire picture seemed to be a decent draw, so here's one from yesterday's excursion to the Faire:

I have found the shop of my people!

After twenty (yes, twenty!) years of attending King Richard's Faire, this is most likely the last time we'll be going. It's doubtful we'll make the trek up from Virginia to attend, and there are other Renaissance Faires in the NoVA area for us to check out. One thing we realized about KRF is that while we're comfortable with the location, we've seen everything twenty times - so while we'll miss it, it'll be nice to see something new.

All month long I'll be going about kilted and posting kilted pictures as part of Kilted to Kick Cancer. Kilted Picture, Day Twenty Eight

Guess where we're going to day?

Why, yes, off to King Richard's Faire, of course! Nothing like a full meter broadsword to make folks stop with the kilt wisecracks! I might even get TheBoy to accompany me - I'll let him take the battle axe if he'll wear a kilt...

All month long I'll be going about kilted and posting kilted pictures as part of Kilted to Kick Cancer. As we've done in years past, there's a friendly competition running to see who can raise the most money for prostate cancer research. Kilted Picture, Day Twenty Seven

It's my brother-in-law and I hamming it up for a Friday Funny Kilted pic!

Folks, we've got three more days of kilted goodness, and I don't think I'm going to make my goal this year. Ambulance Driver wants to see if we can break $10,000 this year, and I'd like to help with that. So here goes: If I reach halfway to my goal ($3,750), I'll still go through with the Pirate Wench idea. Oh, and I think it goes without saying that I also need to beat Jeff like a rented Colt...

All month long I'll be going about kilted and posting kilted pictures as part of Kilted to Kick Cancer. Sweetening The Pot EVEN MORERER...

So, when I did my super mega mondo prize update, I included a picture of the actual York Arms lower that Wally has so kindly offered as an incentive to donate to me:

He was a little miffed that not one single comment was offered (I mean, REALLY, you barbarians!), so he decided to up the ante.

The winner of the AR-15 lower will get, in addition to that fabulous one-of-a-kind lower seen above, five (5) new 30 round Pmags and a York Arms FDE patch:

Seriously, folks, this is pretty amazing. I can't thank York Arms enough for this generosity.

If this awesome new addition makes you want to donate more so as to increase your chances, you can do that here:

Special thanks to York Arms for these awesome prizes!!!

That is all.

Kilted Picture, Day Twenty Six

After today there's only four kilty days left. Last night, BabyGirl G. asked how the fundraiser was going. She knew that Jeff B. had called me out, and that I was concerned about it. She wanted to do something to help her daddy out, so she appealed to her favorite superhero...

Yes, that's me with SuperGirl. You didn't realize we had such clout with the superhero set, did you? Won't you please help SuperGirl and I raise money for Prostate Cancer Research? BabyGirl G. will be happy her contacts paid off...

All month long I'll be going about kilted and posting kilted pictures as part of Kilted to Kick Cancer. Kilted Picture, Day Twenty Five

As folks who are friends with me on Facebook know, my kilted compatriot Jeff B. has called me out. He's in second place in the Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraiser, and he's making a play for the number one position. He's issued a challenge to me:
So, to motivate my troops: If Jay finishes on top, I will wear a New England Patriots t shirt (as he provides) and post a pic here. If I finish atop the donations, Jay will wear a Indianapolis Colts shirt that I provide and post a pic.

Challenge. Accepted. I'm your huckleberreh... Even got a jersey for you to wear, Jeff. Folks, Jeff is putting on a herculean effort to overtake me, and I feel the need to applaud his efforts. Right before I crush them, of course.

We all want to see Jeff B. wearing this jersey, right?

All month long I'll be going about kilted and posting kilted pictures as part of Kilted to Kick Cancer. As we've done in years past, there's a friendly competition running to see who can raise the most money for prostate cancer research. Prize Package Update!

Okay, we've had new prizes added and significant updates to existing packages, so for the last week of the Kilted to Kick Cancer Fundraiser challenge, we'll refer to this post as the be-all-end-all post on prizes.

My red-headed blog stepchild was kind enough to put together not one but two "playsets" - remember those cheesy plastic ones you'd get as a kid? Like the "police" playset had a revolver, plastic cuffs, a badge and a whistle? Well, here's two Action Playsets that are the real deal...

Prize Package #1a: The Pirate Action Playset:

That's awfully busy. Let me break it out for you:

Cutlass

Dagger and instruction manual

Boarding axe

Prize Package #1b: The Indian Action Playset:

There's a war club, knife, and a tomahawk in this set. When I say that Michael W. (a.k.a. Dr. Mike - Cutler to the stars) put these playsets together, you have to understand something: He made everything. The tomahawk, the knives, the war club, the boarding axe, the cutlass, the leather work - that's all him. He hand-made everything that you see (except the books) for these two packages.

Think about that for a second, folks - for $5, you get a chance to win a handmade axe, dagger, and cutlass or war club. It's a bahgain!

Thank you, so very much, for everything, Michael.

Prize Package #2: LaserLyte LC9 side-mounted laser

The good folks at LaserLyte sent along this laser after I reviewed the LC9, but I had already shipped it back to Ruger. If you've got an LC9 or LC380, this is a slick unit that installs by replacing the existing side screws. I have one on my P3AT, and it helps quite a bit.

Prize Package #3: Multi-Fun Pack!

Here's a pack of accessories to help dress up your pistol, shotgun, or rifle. There's a Tapco vertical foregrip, a LaserLyte Tri-rail for a 12 gauge shotgun, and a LaserLyte pistol bayonet.

And, we also have this:
From Glenn:
200 count (100 pairs) of Radians FP60 uncorded foam earplugs. Supposedly have a NRR of 29. They are made in the USA. Info from their website here: http://www.radians.com/radsite/index.php/products/industrial-safety-products/hearing-protection/item/radians-resistor-29-earplugs. I figure they may come in handy for shooters or anyone needing hearing protection.

I will mail these only to someone within the lower 48 states. I ordered them, from Sportsmansguide.com, tonight so should have them long before the end of the month. If for some reason they do not arrive or wind up on back order or out of stock forever, I will substitute a $20 gift card at Sportsmansguide.com.

Glenn's also sweetening this deal with another extra:

Remington gun sock. Who couldn't use another one of these? Thanks Glenn!

Prize Package #4: York Arms Stripped AR-15 Lower

Wally has very graciously donated a stripped AR-15 lower, serial number KTKC2013 (how awesome is THAT???) with an engraved Gonzalez flag on the magwell. Pictures will be forthcoming (Wally insisted I wait until after anodizing), and this *is* a firearm, so transfer will have to happen through an FFL and all state and federal laws will be followed.

This prize package needs a picture. And here it is!

Words cannot express how much I love this lower...

Thanks again to Wally!!!

Prize Package #5: 1,500 rounds of .22LR

No, your eyes are not deceiving you. That's a real, honest-to-goodness box of 1,000 rounds of .22LR. You also get this:

That's 500 rounds in a fake spray can to keep your precious rimfire safe from prying eyes and sticky fingers, a necessity in today's cutthroat ammo environment. This is in addition to the 1,000 round bulk pack Bruce has already pledged. 1,500 rounds of .22LR - you literally can't buy a package like this right now. 1,500 rounds of rare-as-hen's-teeth .22LR can be yours courtesy of Bruce, retired NH state rep, who will be joining me in a kilted range trip sometime soon... :)

Prize Package #6: The "You've got some time on your hands" package.

First off, Glenn B. sent me this prize offering:

Yes, that is a genuine Cold War era fallout shelter sign. Second, Glenn's also tossing in the following:

Hornady Zombie Max Ammunition 223 Remington 55 Grain Z-Max Box of 20

Per Glenn:
This will be a single box of this ammo. This has a restriction. The prize will absolutely require the winner to send me a signed statement, attesting that he or she is over 18 years old, has never been convicted of a felony or crime of domestic violence, and can legally receive and possess this particular ammunition at his or her current residence. The winner will also have to send me a photo copy of valid government issued ID, showing name, Address (to which the item is shipping) and date of birth. Sorry but our country is just too litigious.

The other new prizes are all zombie themed too and have no restrictions:

Birchwood Casey Darkotic Window Pain Adhesive Target 12" Package of 5

MidwayUSA Zombie Tactical Rifle Case 42" with 6 Pockets PVC Coated Polyester Black and Green

Lauer DuraCoat Zombie Coat Firearm Finish Zombie Green 4 oz

If these ain't neat prizes, nothing is (well except for the ammo and the lower).
Third, I'll also throw in one of these: Zombie Paper Targets. Zombie Industries was kind enough to send a multi-pack of zombie paper targets with the Bleeding Terrorist target for the Fifth Annual Northeast bloggershoot in 2012, and I'll mail these out to the winner of this package.

And last, but certainly not least, Gallery of Guns has donated a special prize for this package as well:

That's the LaserLyte Training pistol LT-TT in a Davidson's Gallery of Guns exclusive purple. It comes with an LT-PRO insert so you can practice your trigger pull with the training pistol or with your own sidearm.

Thanks to Glenn and Gallery of Guns for the awesome prizes!

Like last year, I'll be giving a "ticket" for every $5 donated. Each ticket can be put towards any prize package (think of each prize package as having a "bucket" in front of it into which you can drop your "ticket"...). For example, if you donated $30, you could put six "tickets" into bucket 1a for six chances to win the Pirate Action Playset. You could also put one "ticket" in every bucket for one chance to win each of the prizes. I'll keep a spreadsheet with donation tallies and "ticket" allocations, and at the close of the contest (midnight on September 30, 2013), I'll have a random number generator pick the winners.

Please e-mail me and let me know how you would like your "tickets" allocated!

If reading about these prizes fills you with an urge to donate...

Thanks again to everyone that has or will donate, and especially to my awesome friends for offering up such great prizes!

That is all.

Kilted Picture, Day Twenty Four

Today's kilted picture is another guest kilt. Scott in MI sends this one in:

I'll let him explain:
There was every type of modern rifle, pistol and optic at this years competition. A buddy of mine [name redacted] decided to take a different approach to the Michigan CRC (Combat Rifle Championship) sporting a Webley revolver, M1 carbine and a Kilt!

Well done, [name redacted]. Well done.

All month long I'll be going about kilted and posting kilted pictures as part of Kilted to Kick Cancer. As we've done in years past, there's a friendly competition running to see who can raise the most money for prostate cancer research. As I did last year, I have a pretty awesome array of prizes – and a challenge to meet my goal! - that can be won as an incentive to donate to the Prostate Cancer Foundation on my behalf. Also, look for a revamp of the prize packages later today. You can only win if you donate, and you can do that here:

Kilted Picture, Day Twenty Three

I can't believe I haven't posted this picture yet.

That's me acting like a nut with my fellow Squirrels (and #1 blogdaughter taking the picture). We're getting ready for gunnie prom at the NRA convention this past May in Houston. In one of my favorite places with some of my favorite people, wearing a kilt. Good times indeed!

Kilted Picture, Day Twenty Two...

TheBoy and I are getting ready for the big game:

We're almost 3/4 of the way through the Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraiser at this point, and only eight kilty days left in the month. It certainly doesn't look like I'm going to hit my goal this year, but there's still time to try!

Kilted Picture, Day Twenty

Today's picture is a direct response to Jeff B.'s blatant pandering. He wants to bring his kids into the picture? Two can play at that game:

That's me with my two and all three cousins. Ha! I have n+3 children!

Seriously, folks, we're 2/3 of the way through the Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraiser, and I'm not even 1/3 of the way to my goal. If y'all want to see me humiliated as a pirate wench, things are really going to have to pick up. Remember, not only are donations tax-deductible, but every $5 you donate earns you one "ticket" to put towards the prizes - including the latest prize!
