Well, now, ain't this something...
So, I got all the names into my spreadsheet, figured out how many chances everyone had, assigned numbers, and ran it through Random.org's Random Number Generator. I got this:
Who had number 321? That's an excellent question. The answer [drumroll, please...]
...
...
...
None other than our host with the most, the chieftain of the cannon, the garagineer himself, Doubletrouble!
Congrats DT!
We'll be in touch to figure out logistics, but the one-of-a-kind York Arms lower receiver, lower parts kit, PMag, and .22LR ammo are yours!
Thanks again to everyone that participated in this year's Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraising challenge!
That is all.

Winnah Winnah Chicken Dinnah...
For those that hadn't seen, Team JayG emerged victorious in the 2014 KTKC fundraising challenge. (http://www.ambulancedriverfiles.com/2014/10/01/kilted-kick-cancer-2014-winners/).
This means that the lower parts kit will indeed go to the winner of the York Arms lower, and Wally has offered to install should the winner so desire. Thanks Wally!
As mentioned in my earlier post, I'll draw the winner sometime Saturday evening. This will allow the last-minute folks a chance to shoot me an e-mail if they haven't already.
Thanks to everyone that donated and helped Team JayG hit the #1 spot!
That is all.
2014 KTKC Recap
At the time this is scheduled, we don't have an official total yet. Unofficially, I heard that we topped last year's tally sometime around 8:00 PM. That's AWESOME. That's about the best news I heard this week. As for the winner, I suspect by the time this posts we'll know who raised the most money, but for me, the most important thing is that we beat last year's total. We improved on what was already a great fundraiser.
To that effect, a list of "thank you"s is in order:
One last note: The fundraiser. Tallying up my donor list last night, I'm still substantially short on donations between the amount I get when I add up the e-mails and the total as displayed by KTKC. I know that some folks (like my mom) didn't send an e-mail because they have no interest in a lower, but I would like to give everyone a chance to get me their information.
With that said, I'll pick the winner Saturday night. That's three more days to e-mail me and let me know how many chances you have coming to you. I have all names and amounts in a spreadsheet, with the total number of chances allocated. A random number generator (Random.org) will be used to determine the winner.
Thanks, once again, from the bottom of my cancer-hatin' heart!
That is all.
To that effect, a list of "thank you"s is in order:
- York Arms, for the one-of-a-kind lower that I know got a bunch of people to donate in support of Team JayG.
- Glenn B., for the kind and generous addition of .22LR to the prize package. It's a rare commodity these days, and greater love hath no man who donateth his precious rimfire.
- JFT, for tossing a Magpul PMag into the prize pool.
- Brownells, Virginia Arms, Dragon Leatherworks, The LED Warehouse, Atlanta Arms, Coast Portland, Richardson Reloading, Dreadnaught Industries, and the Atomic Nerds for the fundraising challenge prize packages. While we certainly don't do this to win prizes, it's nice to have something to shoot for. It's also great for bragging rights... :) Also to AltKilt for their continued support of KTKC.
- The Kilted to Kick Cancer guys themselves, for all the hard work they put into the fundraiser to make it fun, silly, and yet meaningful at the same time. I've only had the pleasure of meeting Ambulance Driver out of the group, but I feel like I've known these guys for more than 3 years. I think getting set up as an actual charity was a HUGE step, and I know that dealing with the IRS can't be fun...
- Lastly, and this is a big one, to everyone that donated to KTKC. Sure, I'm especially thankful for everyone that donated on behalf of Team JayG, but, really, we're all on the same team here. Cancer sucks. I hate it. It has taken far too many people far too early. This is one that affects men, in fact it's the second-largest cause of cancer death in men (after lung cancer; we apparently can't stop inhaling carcinogens fast enough).

So, It's Come to This: Kilted Pic Day 30...
All good things come to an end; today being the last day of September, obviously, means the Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraiser ends at 11:59 PM today (and you can donate to KTKC on behalf of Team JayG right up until then!). For today, as I have in previous years, I give you the final kilted picture of 2014:
So sad as we put the kilts back in the closet for another year...
According to the latest update per Ambulance Driver as of time-of-post, we have raised nearly $11,500, about $2,400 short of last year's total. I really would like to see us beat that amount, especially with all the new folks, so let's see if we can pull off a major coup today. At the very least, let's see how close we can get.
Ask yourself, do you believe in miracles...
And speaking of new folks, I want to give a shout-out to my blogson and the guy who's been nipping at my heels the past few days. For his inaugural run he has put up one HELL of a great showing, and has forced me to really bring my "A" game. Keep an eye on him next year. Also, Team USA Karate and McThag put up some awesome numbers this year, too. Real proud of everyone involved.
One last time... Should you decide to donate on behalf of Team JayG, you will be put into a drawing where you could win:

Kilted Pic, Day 29
This is it, folks, the home stretch. At time of post, less than $200 separates Team JayG from the ravenous clutches of Team Borepatch. Don't let this be the year blogfather loses to blogson! It has been a couple days since the last update, and things may have already changed dramatically, so now is definitely not the time to start getting complacent. There's two days (today included) left in the Kilted To Kick Cancer fundraiser, and I'm in it to win it right up to the end.
So, today's pic?
If it's a sunny weekend in September, I'm grilling in a kilt. The neighbors might look at me a little funny (like they didn't already), but I've gotten to chat with a few as it is about the kilt and why I'm wearing on - mission accomplished. One of the neat things of living in a tight subdivision is that I can reach a good amount of folks just by walking around the block.
And, for old time's sake, one last time:
If you are on the fence about which team to support in the Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraiser, let me remind you that everyone who donates on behalf of Team JayG gets a shot at the following cool schwag:
That is all.

Kilted Pic, Day 28
This one's specifically for Dave H.
Coming from the Day 26 pic, where Dave made this challenge:
I tried to maintain the spirit of the original "Wolverines!" picture with an old camo jacket I had from the paintball days and my Jayne hat (Sorry folks, I don't have a coonskin cap like the original). Hope this is everything you were looking for, Dave!
We had a wild day yesterday with ups and downs (but, overall, way more ups than downs, so it's all good and then some). As of the latest KTKC fundraising update, less than $200 separates Team JayG from Team Borepatch, so this one is going down to the wire. He's got Brigid's awesome Book of Barkley as an incentive to donate to his team; however, I have this:
I would, however, like to see us raise more money this year than last (bold numbers) - so let's crank up the gas for these last three days...
If this appeals to you, *and* you want to support a great cause, *AND* you want some of that sweet, sweet, tax-deductible goodness, and you want Team JayG to triumph over the upstart Team Borepatch, here's what you need to do:
That is all.
Coming from the Day 26 pic, where Dave made this challenge:
Tell you what. You re-do the photo with an American rifle in thirty-by-God caliber (M1 Garand would be ideal, but an M1 Carbine, a Springfield M1903, or heck, I'll even settle for an AR-10) and I'll drop at least another $50 in the kitty. We discussed in comments, and he agreed that a .30-30 lever action Marlin was acceptable, so there it is...

Kilted Pic, Day 27
I'm still clinging to my razor-thin lead, but that's not why I'm posting an update and a pic on a Saturday. We are SO CLOSE to hitting $10K in the Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraiser that I want to pull out all the stops even over the weekend. In that vein, here's another pic from dinner last Saturday:
That's SCI-FI mooning the crowd (he's camera-shy). Stretch and Marty, my kilted brethren, are looking on bemusedly as the moment is saved. Again, I was having a difficult time trying to figure out what to freak out more over: wearing a kilt or open-carrying.
It worked, though: at some point in the night, a gentleman walked over and (very politely) asked what the deal was on the kilts. I explained about KTKC, and he was very receptive (and promised to get checked), and I considered it a major win all around.
Now, as we enter the last few days of the fundraiser, time is running out for donations. We're close to what we raised last year; it would be fantastic to exceed last year's take, but we'll take what we can get. Every bit helps.
if you decide to donate on behalf of Team JayG, you will be put into a drawing where you could win:
Three days to go - let's keep going full speed!

Kilted Pic, Day 26
Well, got another update yesterday, and it appears that - for the moment - Team JayG is in the lead in the Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraiser. We overtook my blogson at some point between Tuesday and today, and are clinging to a razor-thin lead at the moment - one that could evaporate literally at any moment. Don't stop donating!
Also, and more importantly, we're very close to breaking $10K in the overall fundraiser. That's awesome. We're under a $1,000 away, and I would love to cross the five figure threshold before the weekend is out. Also, if you kick in another $35 to Ambulance Driver, he'll have to wrestle a greased pig at Blogorado. He's crazy, he'll do it. And probably like it...
So, anyways, four days of kilted goodness left. Like this humorous Friday pose:
WOLVERINES!!!
I couldn't resist, I just couldn't. Now, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking to yourself, self, that's supposed to be an AK he's holding for the true "Red Dawn". Well, that's true, but the AK-47 is also the weapon of the enemy, and Team JayG is all about 'MURICA. And apple pie. And mother. So drop a donation to KTKC for Team JayG in the interest of motherhood, and baseball, and the Chrysler 440 cubic inch engine...
Also remember, if you decide to donate on behalf of Team JayG, you will be put into a drawing where you could win:

Kilted Picture, Day 25
Well, it is Throwback Thursday, so I was about to post the infamous "Marilyn" pic. Except I'm within striking distance of my blogson in the Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraiser, and I thought I'd leave that one in reserve, you know, just in case. Of course, I can't tell if posting it is the incentive to donate, or NOT posting it... With that said, #tbt kilt!
This one was a favorite in the 2011 fundraiser, and I hope it will be as popular now as it was then. We're running neck-and-neck with Team Borepatch, and I'd really like to come in over the top. Not because I want to beat my poor blogson like a rented mule, but because it means that we've raised more money. KTKC is coming close to $10K, and I would love to see us cross that particular finish line.
With Team JayG in the lead, of course...
Now, to recap. If you decide to donate on behalf of Team JayG, you will be put into a drawing where you could win:

Kilted Picture, Day 24
As I mentioned yesterday, the latest standings put me within $115 of my blogson in the Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraiser (Team JayG!). Friend and Northeast Bloggershoot attending Glenn B. graciously chipped in enough to put me over the top, and offered yet another very cool prize to throw into the mix to help me stay there.
This:
What's inside?
300 rounds of Winchester .22 LR ammunition. Or as we like to call it, Imaginarium. Not only do you get the one-of-a-kind York Arms stripped lower, a lower parts kit, and a 30-round PMag, but now you get 300 rounds of .22 LR in case you want to take your Ruger 10/22 to the range before you finish your AR... Thanks Glenn!!!
Now, for the kilted pic:
I totally forgot to conclude my "a day in the kilted life" sequence. It's not all glamor and sunshine when kilted, nossirree. Sometimes you have to take care of the chores as well... (and, for the record, socks on a hardwood floor = not the greatest idea I've ever had...)
Now, to recap. If you decide to donate on behalf of Team JayG, you will be put into a drawing where you could win:

Kilted Picture, Day 23
Wow. Ambulance Driver posted the most recent standings. I'm humbled to report that you wonderful people have rocketed me into second place. Only $115 separates me from the big Kahuna of the 2014 Kilted to Kick Cancer Fundraiser, my blogson Borepatch. Now, I'm his blogfather. I'm humbled that he was inspired to participate in KTKC from watching me the past three years. I'm proud as hell of him and his fundraising effort. Team JayG.
Now, please, help me grind him into the earth like a bug...
Seriously, though, we're 3/4 of the way through KTKC. We as a group have raised over $7,500. That is AWESOME, and I am proud of everyone involved with the effort this year. Let's keep the gas mashed to the floor on this year's fundraiser and cross the finish line with a five digit figure. But first, your kilted pic: Team JayG.
That's me (attempting to) imitate the legendary Jerry Miculek and his three-second V-drill. No, I didn't actually shoot like that; that would be irresponsible and dangerous. No eyes or ears! I also know my limitations, and Jerry I ain't... Team JayG.
Now...
I'm definitely in the top three, so the lower parts kit from Brownells is back on the table. That means we have a one-of-a-kind York Arms stripped lower receiver, a lower parts kit, and a Magpul PMag in the prize package. I am not above chipping in more goodies if it means I can overtake the lead position, too... Team JayG.

Kilted Pic, Day 22
We're coming into the home stretch now, with only eight days of kilty goodness left. I haven't seen an update recently, but at last reckoning I was in the middle of the pack, certainly not in the top three. I've been trying to claw my way back up, and decided to call in the reinforcements...
That's Stretch and Marty with me. We had a small gathering of friends over the weekend and the three of us wore our kilts for the occasion. It was a first for me, the first time I'd open-carried in a kilt. Talk about not knowing which thing to feel uncomfortable about! I'm still getting used to the idea that people don't automatically call the SWAT team for an exposed holster...
I'm tryin', folks, I'm trying. I know I got off to a slow start this year. I didn't amass the usual cornucopia of goodies, although my good pal Wally had an awesome lower for me to raffled off. I don't have a book signed by a famous author this year (although I have offered one in the past). I haven't gotten as many pictures up as I have in years past, mainly because the weekends, when I can get out kilted, have been jam-packed this year.
And yes, I know what excuses are like...
With that said, there is a very cool one-of-a-kind York Arms lower up for grabs, along with one 30-round Magpul PMag. If I'm in the top three, I'll throw in a lower parts kit so all you'll need to finish the lower is a receiver extension, recoil buffer and spring, and stock. It's a pretty sweet package, especially considering that this lower is literally the only one of its kind in the world.

Ah, but this is no normal day, no it's not, ye scurvy dogs. Today be Talk Like A Pirate Day. So, since ye be mutinous pirates lookin' to steal me treasure, here's a pirate-themed pic for today.
If ye get too low, you'll see me booty. (See what I did there?)
I'm not sure where the standings are right now, but I do know I've had a few very generous donations since the last update (thank you everyone!!!). I'm going to run under the assumption that everyone else ahead of me has been making similar strides, and that I'm still in the middle of the pack. Also, my blogson has offered to ride his motorcycle in a kilt if he breaks $2,500.
I'll match that, and up the ante: If I beat Borepatch, not only will I ride my Harley in a kilt and provide video, I'll have signed prints...
Now, if you want to make that happen, here's what you need to do.
To donate:
Also remember, if you donate to KTKC on behalf of Team JayG, you get a shot at winning a York Arms lower and Magpul PMag. Everyone that donates gets a chance to win it. Every $5 is one chance (i.e. if you donate $25 you get 5 chances). As I've done in years past, I'll assign everyone numbers based on their chances and run a random number generator to determine a winner. Everyone who donates and e-mails me gets a shot.
I have not yet begun to grovel...
That is all.

Kilted Pic, Day 18
Here's another throwback Thursday pic:
No, it's not the Marilyn pose. I'm going to save that for next Thursday, and we'll see where the fundraising challenge is at then. If I'm still way back in the pack, I'm going to post that picture. As it is, this pic was from two years ago, where TheBoy decided he wanted to help dad and put on his uncle's kilt. Since Obama was running for re-election and promising everything under the sun, we just *had* to pose with fuzzy purple unicorns...
So, there you are. Me, my son, and purple unicorns. Is there any question as to what I will do for a donation? Remember, there is a photo out there of me imitating Marilyn Monroe's famous pose. I'm game if you've got the greenbacks. I don't like being this far back in the pack. I want to move up. I'm willing to do pretty much anything that won't get me arrested or fired to earn your shekels...

Kilted To Kick Cancer, Day 17
Bad news today, folks. In the latest fundraising challenge update, I have slipped. Two places. Fifth place. That means the parts kit is off the table, for now, unless Team JayG gets back into the top three. I want to give that parts kit away, I really do. But I really do want to claw my way back up, I do. It's a long row - Team Borepatch appears to be the runaway winner, although Team KarateUSA came out of nowhere to hit second place. OldNFO worked his magic and slipped ahead of me again, too.
One more "Day in the life" picture, and then the gloves come off...
Mowing the lawn in a kilt. This one got some looks from the neighors...
Now, don't get me wrong. I like the guys in the lead, I do. It doesn't mean I don't want Team JayG to beat them all like a rented mule... I want to take the next 13 days and work my kilted butt off to claw my way back to the top. If not the #1 position, I want to get back into the top three. I want someone to get that lower parts kit with the special York Arms lower.
So, what's it going to take to get your money? Borepatch has his ringer, offering a signed copy of "The Book of Barkley," and I do have to admit that's a pretty awesome prize. But, darnit, we've got a one-of-a-kind York Arms stripped lower receiver here. You can't buy this from Brownells. You can't go down to your favorite gun shop and say to the guy behind the counter, "Please sell me that Kilted To Kick Cancer York Arms lower" - because the only way to get it is to win it, and the only way to win it is to make a donation to Team JayG.
Obviously, I have not groveled sufficiently. Folks, I'm begging here, with tears in my eyes. On bended knee. Knees, even. Knees knobbled - to the bone - from wearing a kilt down in the word mines, slaving away trying to come up with just the right incentive to get you to donate to Kilted to Kick Cancer on behalf of Team JayG. If there's a pose you'd like to see, make me an offer. My dignity is on sale here, and it's going surprisingly cheap. Get me back into that shiny winner's circle, I'm begging you...
We do have another prize, actually. Reader JFT e-mailed me, told me that he would be sending in a donation later, but wanted to offer something to help the cause. He's throwing in a 30-round PMag (if the winner is in a free state; if not, I will send a pre-ban 30-rounder in its place if allowed):
Thanks JFT. That means a lot to me and Team JayG.

Kilted To Kick Cancer, Day 16
So, yesterday your intrepid kilted host was out running errands. What do you do when you get back from running errands on a weekend?
Why, you check the mail, of course! One thing I'm finding about Northern Virginia is that it's awfully hard to surprise folks here. There are so many different cultures all mashing together that an Italian guy in a kilt doesn't even register. I've had a couple folks wave, a couple tilted heads, but for the most part, folks barely bat an eye.
It's a little disappointing, to be honest. When folks take notice, it gives me a chance to spread the word. While we're doing this to raise money for prostate cancer research, so that someday we might have a cure, more immediately we're trying to raise awareness. Get kilted. Get checked. We want men to go to their doctor and get examined, because that's how things get caught earlier, when they are more treatable.
If we can get more men getting checked more regularly, that's a huge win.
And speaking of winning... Remember, if you donate to KTKC on behalf of Team JayG, you get a shot at winning a York Arms lower and a parts kit with which to finish it. Everyone that donates gets a chance to win it. Every $5 is one chance (i.e. if you donate $25 you get 5 chances). Only two kilted weeks left to catch up to the big boys!

Kilted Picture, Day 15
Okay, we're at the halfway point for Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraising challenge. As I mentioned over the weekend, Team JayG has managed to claw its way into third place (thanks everyone!!!) but I'm still aiming for the top. We've raised close to $4,000 so far, and I'd like to see that number FAR more than double before we are all through.
For this week, I'll be doing "A Day In The Kilted Life" from this past weekend, starting with:
Running errands. When out and about, the "dress kilt" is a must.
Now, I've got the York Arms stripped lower receiver and the Brownells lower parts kit to be awarded to one lucky donor. I'm taking picture requests for donations, and not a single person has taken me up on it. Really?
What's it going to take to get you to donate to Team JayG? Do I need to dip into the great big box 'o' cool stuff and come up with something else to add to the prize mix? Because I can do that. Get me into second place by the end of the week and I'll add even more to the prize package.
For now, though, if you donate to KTKC on behalf of Team JayG, you get a shot at winning a York Arms lower and a parts kit with which to finish it. Everyone that donates gets a chance to win it. Every $5 is one chance (i.e. if you donate $25 you get 5 chances). To donate:
Third place now, second place ???
That is all.

Catching Up...
So, Kilted to Kick Cancer posted an update in the fundraising challenge. Team Jay G. is in third place now thanks to everyone that has donated - thank you. That means the Brownells Lower Parts Kit is now officially part of the prize package. What stood out, for me, was that Team JayG has the second-highest number of donations, second only to my blogson. I like that.
So, as we near the halfway point, it's time to pick up more steam. I'm still gunning for first place, which means I have a good amount of ground to cover. In that vein, I'm tossing up another kilted pic today. Since it's the weekend, I hope to generate more pics. And, like I've said before, I'm open for donation suggestions - if there's a pose you want, let me know. For the right price (and I am shockingly cheap), you can own a little piece of my dignity!
Today's kilted pic:
It's a kilted dude hanging out at Home Depot. Nothing to see here. One of the most amazing things about KTKC and forcing one's self out of one's comfort zone to get out and be kilted is how few people notice. Sure, a few cast wary sideways glances, others are supportive, but the vast majority are just clue-free. There are always a few curious sorts, and those are the ones that I like the best, because that's where awareness comes in.
And, with an update: If you donate to KTKC on behalf of Team JayG, you get a shot at winning a York Arms lower and a parts kit with which to finish it. Everyone that donates gets a chance to win it. Kilted Picture, Day 12
After yesterday, I had to go with another rifle-themed picture for my KPOtD:
Why, yes, those are York Arms-based AR-15s, thanks for asking. And yes, you *could* win a stripped York Arms lower, complete with lower parts kit, just for making a donation to Kilted to Kick Cancer for Team Jay G. If Borepatch can do kilt-butt shots, so can I... ;)
Again, to reiterate, if you donate to KTKC on behalf of Team JayG, you get a shot at winning a York Arms lower - and, possibly, a parts kit with which to finish it.
To donate:
What better way to kick cancer to the curb than winning a stripped lower?
That is all.

Kilted Picture, Day 11
KTKC - Throwback Thursday style!
This is the very first kilted picture I ever posted. It's from September 19, 2011, very nearly three years ago. The picture was taken in front of a local steakhouse, well, local to where Mrs. G. grew up and SCI-FI (who took the picture) grew up and currently lives. He was kind enough to follow me around that weekend, getting pictures for my attempt to win the Kilted to Kick Cancer fundraiser. The very first one.
Now, as I did three years ago, I find myself back in the pack, struggling to catch up. I came awfully close that first year, and came back with a vengeance the second year. It's not the prizes, nor even the bragging rights (even though beating Kelly like a rented mule is a side benefit). It's knowing that I did my best to help raise money for cancer research and awareness for a form of cancer that specifically targets men.
This year, though, I have something I didn't that first year: a York Arms lower - and, possibly, a parts kit with which to finish it - is at stake here. Anyone that donates gets a chance to win it. Every $5 is one chance (i.e. if you donate $25 you get 5 chances). As I've done in years past, I'll assign everyone numbers based on their chances and run a random number generator to determine a winner. Everyone who donates and e-mails me gets a shot.
To donate:
Help me kick cancer - and Kelly's behind - again, please.
That is all.
