TGIF y'all. Got my @$$ kicked this week, and next week's forecast is for more kickin'...
So, in that vein, here's something else that kicks ass:
A gen-yoo-wine Russian Makarov in the marginal .380 ACP caliber. Manufactured in Izhevsk by Izmech and imported by Big Bear Arms. Bought many many years ago as my first carry gun. Wonderfully accurate, sturdy as a hammer, and inexpensive (I paid less for this new with two magazines than I've paid for most of my beaters pre-owned guns.
Somewhere in the attic I've even got the cardboard box it came in along with the cheesy "leather" holster and cleaning rod...

A Russkie gun? [Smacks you on the forehead] You coulda had a Colt or a BHP! ;)
Hey, did you ride your bike to work today?
Holly,
I'm an equal opportunity gun nut. And I couldn't have bought a Colt slide for what I paid for the Mak, so... ;)
As for the bike, sadly the weather forecast gave the possibility of thunder showers this afternoon.
Which, of course, won't happen since I left the bike home, but had I taken it I'm sure it would have poured...
Nice little mouse gun; I've always been curious to handle a Makarov, but never had the chance.
Well, if you happen to find yourself some ~ 2,500 miles northeast, let me know and I'll clear some time @ the range...
:)
MAN, I have the same gun and ya, got it years ago (when you still could get a cheap gun in MA) for short money. . . I love to shoot it, very accurate. Was beginning to think I was the only one who had one ; )
I have to disagree on the cleaning rod comment, it has come in handy at the range to have it. . . not that it got used on this gun but the little hook on the end of the rod worked great pulling out .22 brass that got stuck in a bolt action I was using. . .
great pic and info on it.
HollyB you really need to try it before smacking anyone. . . it is a great little piece even if it is a bit under powered at .380
jd,
Another MA gunnie?!?!? Sweet!
The "cheesy" comment was meant to refer to the holster, not the cleaning rod. I have a CZ-52 with a similar holster, and I can only assume that all Russian surplus firearms come with the standard "pleather" holster... :)
JD, evidently my humor doesn't come through the ethernet as well as I thought. Although, I don't "think" Jay was offended, I could be wrong.
I meant it as a joke, and i hope it was taken that way.
I'm just a size Queen and I fell in Love w/Colts and Brownings when I first started shooting. The Dearly Beloved created a monster, but I think he's kinda proud, actually, even if he did "lose" a few pistols to my range bag.
Holly,
Have no fear. You really have to work to offend me. :)
"I'm just a size Queen"
Words no man ever wants to hear...
:)
I think I know what you mean about that awful holster. I, too, have a CZ-52 that came in some lame holster. I figured it was just what my gran-pappy had lying around.
Post up or send me some pics of your CZ (and holster for grins). I know suprisingly little about that gun. Looking to know more. I'm hoping between you and Tam I can clear that up.
Oh, and the "Size-Queen" thing? I suppose that COULD speak leaps and bounds for her husband. I'm just sayin.
mind in gutter

Tweaker, for info about anything, Google is your friend...
See here, here, here, and here.
The first three and the fifth result on a Google search for cz-52.
Jay G -
Yep, another gun nut stuck in MA. . . I am down on the south shore so it is not so bad. My local PD is good and supports gun owners here. . .
HollyB
I figured you were joking but had to back JG on the gun, it is a sweet little piece to shoot at the range, and I think I got mine for like $150 if I remember right, much less than anything else M&M Sports had at the time. . .
