Was listening to Aerosmith's "Rag Doll" on the radio this morning. Starting thinking (always a dangerous proposition). "Permanent Vacation" (the last decent Aerosmith album) came out in 1987 - I actually went to the New Year's Eve concert at the Boston Garden NYE 1987-1988.
I was 16 years old when this album came out. My son is twice as close to 16 as I am.
Yikes.
Someone find my cane and false teeth please...

Your making me feel old
My first ever concert, well not including being dragged along to Elvis as a 3 year old, was Aerosmith with special guest Ted "The Moror City Madman" Nugent at New Jersey's Brendan Byrne Arena (perhaps the only arena ever named after a sitting Governor and which was later named the Byrne Arena, the Meadowlands Arena, and the Continental Airlines Arena).
Aerosmith had just reformed after years of drug abuse, crappy-not-quite-Aerosmith-albums (one with steve perry and no joe tyler and I believe one with joe tyler but no steve perry), heroin abuse, auto wrecks, crummy solo albums, and some real rotten music.
Album was Done With Mirrors and it came out in 1985. Killer comeback, with a great early MTV video. Used the tour to re-establish their bonafides, before hooking up with a real production company and blowing ALL their previous efforts away.
I like to think Done With Mirrors was the last "original" Aerosmith album before they reformed and became a different beast entirely. I agree about permanat vacation (and saw that show too - with GnR opening, at SPAC) but the band was a lot slicker at that point and Done with Mirrors will forever hold a special place in my heart.
I was 15.
I can't believe that my son is twice as close to that age now as I am.
Get me some prune juice
FYI, I was "aerofan" before I became YKY at the old place, so needless to say they're my fav & I must disagree somewhat: Pump was one helluva great album (going from memory some of the songs are Young Lust, Love in an Elevator, What it takes, The other side, Monkey on my back, Janie's got a gun), but ever since they've resembled the Little River Band more than the group that gave us Walk the Way & Sweet Emotion.
FYI, countertop, Tyler was always in Aerosmith, the Perry album sans Tyler was part of the Joe Perry Project.
Okay, here's what made me feel old: Julio Franco just got released by the Mets & his first Major League appearance came for the Phillies back in 1982. The next day, Kelly Clarkson was BORN.
I remember his first game because I was a baseball nut at 15. Ugh, I'm old.
You whippersnappers need to pipe DOWN! You woke this TRULY OLD Lady up from her nap with all your yammerin'. 15 in '85? HAH! I had a 5 y.o and a 3 y.o. in '85 and I was freakin' out b/c I was hittin' the BIG 30 that year. Now, give us oldsters some peace and quiet and count yer dang Blessings! LMAO
Holly made me feel better. I just graduated in 84.
