Gunman On The Loose!

Tweaker has a frightening tale of a rampaging gunman in his very hometown.

After all that, I, er, the gunman I mean, got to go to the grocery store to pick up some loose ends for dinner.

Carrying is fun. I like knowing that (minus the hair, goatee, and earring) I look just like everyone else.

I just gotta get in a better habit of paying attention to the signage at the storefront. I walk into a place with the wrong sign and I'm in deep doo-doo.

So, Jay, can I ask you what gun you would recommend for a new CW permit carrier? Female, has shot a .44, but didn't like it much. Did okay with the .38 and the .357 wasn't too bad. And I don't like to spend a ton o money on ammo.

I dunno that I'd call it fun... (But you're allowed, since you just got your permit and all). :)

It's more of a pain in the ass, literally - I carry at ~ 4:00, and inevitably wind up digging the holster into my right asscheek every time I sit down...

For inexpensive shooting, you can't do better than 9mm. The oft-maligned "euro-pellet" is the cheapest centerfire ammo you can get (as factory), and in the right configuration is plenty potent enough to end any dispute.

That said, if you're just getting started, see about renting any guns you're interested in before you buy.

I'd look at both the Glock 26 (sub-compact 9mm) and a Smith & Wesson model 637/642 (exposed hammer/hammerless, follow the links for pics).

These are all light guns with substantial recoil, so be sure to try them out before you buy to make sure it's not so unpleasant you won't shoot it. And I'm saying this as the owner of a 360PD, a 12 ounce .357 Magnum "Snubbie from Hell™" which fully grown men have shot once or twice, screamed in agony, and handed back to me with a curt "you can keep it"... ;)

In any case, I can't recommend trying before you buy strong enough. I went through four or five firearms before I found a good gun, and I'm always on the lookout for something better.

You can't have too light or too thin, that's what I've found...
