So Angry I Cannot See Straight...

There is so much wrong with this story I don't even know where to begin.

Linebacker Chris Collins dismissed from Oklahoma State football team

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) —
Linebacker Chris Collins was permanently dismissed from Oklahoma State's football team Monday, six days after he pleaded guilty to a felony aggravated sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in Texas.

Okay. That's bad enough. Dude sexually assaulted a pre-teen. That's enough to warrant a "he needed killin'" in many parts of the country.

This is the only fucking part of the story that doesn't raise my blood pressure 50 points, however...

How does this story piss me off? Let me count the ways...

Coach Mike Gundy met with Collins to inform him of the dismissal, according to a statement released Monday evening by Marlene Strathe, the university's interim president.

``Chris has been a model student-athlete since he arrived at OSU last year and coach Gundy felt that he had earned the privilege of hearing the decision face-to-face from his head coach,'' Strathe said in the statement.

UN-FUCKING-MITIGATED FUCKING GALL. The "privilege" of hearing the decision straight from the coach? Could you possibly be more fucking full of yourself?

I'd have had a LOT more respect for Coach Gundy had he called campus security to escort this felon out of his locker room, with explicit instructions to shoot-on-sight should he ever return.

And it just keeps getting better:
Collins had been suspended for the remainder of the season after entering his guilty plea last week in New Boston, Texas, on the charge resulting from the May 2004 assault that occurred after prom in Collins' junior year of high school. Collins, who was 17 at the time, was one of four men charged with assaulting the girl. An affidavit indicated the girl said she could recall Collins being on top of her and kissing her neck, and contains a statement from one of the other men that he saw Collins and the girl having sexual relations.

A jury recommended Collins receive a five-year prison sentence, which he would serve on probation. He will be formally sentenced by a judge on Dec. 10.

Bad enough. Dude rapes a 12 year old girl and is on fucking probation. Un-fucking-real. But wait! It keeps getting better:
Strathe said Collins would be permitted to keep his scholarship and remain in school.

YOU. HAVE. GOT. TO. BE. SHITTING. ME.

Dude rapes a pre-teen girl, doesn't serve time, doesn't get kicked out of school and GETS TO KEEP HIS FUCKING SCHOLARSHIP??? WHAT THE HOLY FUCKING SHIT?

The dean of OSU should have demanded he be ejected from the campus. Preferably via trebuchet. Failing that, the dean should be ejected.

Hell in a fucking handbasket, people. We have extended our fucking celebrity worship culture to college fucking athletes.

Here's one last little kick in the ass:
Collins was Oklahoma State's leading tackler through six games last season when he suffered a season-ending injury. He had 31 tackles and one forced fumble in five games this season. He also missed four games due to injury this season.

Got that? Basically, NONE OF THIS HAPPENED until rapist-boy sustained an injury severe enough to keep him out the season???

How many other children could he have raped if he had stayed healthy?

I am off to the range. I've got to make sure the .308 is right on fucking target, because we are on the fucking express elevator to hell...

Gah. Where did I put that Lisinopril again?

OK You know that I'm the first one to jump on the rapist killing bandwagon but that is not what this is. First of all it's "sexual assault" (read: statutory rape)second of all the girl waited 3 freaking years to report it. I live in Oklahoma and I'm close enough to this to tell you that while what Chris did was wrong, he (for all accounts) didn't exactly *force the girl to have sex with him. He was (barely) 16 and he took advantage of a much too young female and now he is paying the price. We all make mistakes but this particular situation does not warrent destroying the rest of his life. I alos think it's completly asinine that Oklahoma requires those arrested for peeing on the roadway to register as sex offenders for the rest of their lives. I mean, seriously.

1. The article says he was 17. Old enough to join the Armed Forces (with parental okay) is CERTAINLY old enough to know that 12 is too fucking young.

2. She. Was. 12. That's not statutory rape, that's child molestation in my book. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, pre- or post-pubescence is the distinction between child molestation and statutory.

3. As for waiting 3 years, well, isn't it possible she wanted to make sure the big hulking football player was OUT OF THE TOWN when she came forward? Y'know, so as to not be in danger from him, his teammates, or the football-mad parents and alumni who'd be mad she blew the whistle on the star player?

4. There's a wide continuum of possible punishments. On one extreme is the "destroy the rest of his life", an extreme I lean towards especially when I think of my own daughter. The other extreme is "no punishment whatsoever", and what Chris got was DAMN close to that: 5 years probation and he's off the team (after suffering a severe injury).

Sorry, Lindsey, gotta disagree here. He got off WAAAAY too light, and only reinforces the idea that our celebrities are a "special class" that can rape, steal, and kill with (near) impunity.

Yes, he got off waaaaay too light. I know it's 'iffy' when there are 17 year olds making out with 15 year olds, but....12? Dude's NOT going to enjoy prison where many of those hardened criminals are also fathers.

As to why it was into the season before he was suspended: they waited until he pleaded guilty. Not a universal action, of course, but you don't suspend someone simply because they've been accused by someone. MAYBE if they've been arrested or indicted, yeah, that's when flags should go up. Then again, we have the Duke lacrosse team, don't we?

Otherwise, I could certainly see a case where a bunch of teenage girls coincidentally accused Auburn's best players of rape the week before the Iron bowl, yearly. :)

If I'm the DA and if we're in an ideal world, I offer the guy 3 years in the slammer or one year in the slammer and 10 minutes in a locked room with the girl's father. 6 months if the father only needs five minutes (although to be honest, he really should stretch it out as long as he could).

Gods, I don't believe I'm commenting here...

One question that I would need answered: what were the circumstances? Unfortunately, there are FAR too many young ladies that look far older than they are, which can result in all kinds of problems...

I have a friend, who almost got popped for statuatory. Met the girl in a bar, asked to see ID (she looked young to him, but she was able to produce a good fake ID). Took her back to his place, and they had fun. A couple weeks later, he got an invitation to her 15th B-Day party, followed awhile later with the news that he had gotten her pregnant. I'm firmly convinced that the only reasons he didn't get charged were a)he could better provide child support out of jail, and b)the mother did NOT want to explain what her daughter was doing out alone at a bar at 14...

IF the guy in the story knew the girl in any way, and known she was that young, then hang 'im...

True, but it's up to the dude. One of the first lessons I learned in life was "make sure they're legal" (not that it matered.....not like I had chicks throwing panties in my direction). Failure to know their age is not an excuse, it's up to the guy to find out before going forward, ALWAYS. In your example, the guy's completely in the clear as she provided an I.D. That's probably why they didn't charge him, because it's an open-and-shut case of a person impersonating someone else and no D.A. would take that one to court as long as she admitted that she had a fake ID (that she was allowed into a night club gives the defense more ammo). Legally, your friend did nothing wrong.

In today's society, it's even more difficult because I see 14 year olds who look like 17 year olds all the time (Ricky recalling his high school days & remembering that all the girls looked like Ethel Merman back then and wishing that he could've been born 25 years later) but it's still up to the guy to make sure. As Sam Kinison said, "if you don't trust the pu$$y, why are you f#@king the pu$$y?"

By the way, Jay, if you want anger, read this.

I'd say Ricky has the definitive answer. If you're not sure; if there's even the slightest hint of doubt, keep it in your pants.

And, not that it matters, but I've BTDT.

When I was 18 or 19, my folks took off for CA for a week and brought my sister with them, and I stayed home (one of the benefits of being a dork is that they trusted me not to throw wild parties, which I didn't as a rule...)

I did have a handful of friends over to hang out, drink beer, err, beverages legal for us to consume, watch movies, etc.

Well, my buddy Jeff's girlfriend stopped by. With her was her 13 year old cousin, who at 13 already had a 36DD chest and body to match.

And she was *ALL* over me.

While it took nearly every ounce of control I possessed at the time, I literally did not touch her. Sure, my hormones were SCREAMING for me to take the fruit so willingly dangled before me, but I *KNEW* it was wrong.

And Ricky, I saw that. They were using their CHILDREN as shields. Soulless cowards relying on the goodwill and general humanity of those they accuse of having none. The hypocrisy is so thick you could cut it with a knife...
