Missed Milestone...

I'm chalking this up to advancing old age. I missed a personal milestone two weeks back. December 2nd marks the 10th anniversary of my successful Master's thesis defense.

10 years gone. A career that has almost nothing to do with my choice of study.

It's funny the direction life takes us sometimes, isn't it?

I know quite a few who are working in a field unrelated (or loosely related) to their field of study in college.

I believe that sometimes the fact you have a college degree is as / more important than the actual field it is in...

I hear you, Jay. 13 years of loans left to pay on a degree I don't use, myself. Probably sounds familiar.

So, what were you going to be when you grew up?

A long time ago, in a childhood far, far away, young Jay G. wanted to be a doctor.

He was so far as to go off to college and major in Biology, getting decent grades (graduted cum laude, even) and taking the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test). Got the highest score of anyone from his college who took the test that year.

Then he did something foolish: He talked to a med school student. And another. And another.

And realized that the level of commitment required, the sheer amount of energy, drive, and independent wealth associated with successfully completing med school and internships was beyond his grasp.

I shoulda been a cowboy. I shoulda learned to rope & ride...

(No, wait, that's a country song...)

:)
