One of the neat things about this whole blog thing is that it allows me to keep in touch with friends even when they're far away.
A good buddy of mine, in fact, someone I've written about before here, took his family to Disney after the holidaze. He was kind enough to send me this picture as proof that all is, indeed, not yet lost:
The subject of his e-mail said it best: Sarah Brady, eat your heart out.
Ya, it is good to see that when we go to Disney that they have not sold out. . . .
I think it was Santa's Village in NH I went to a few years back with the kids and they had a shooting ride where you went from room to room in the motorized cart and shot targets (some kind of bad guy, forget what it was) but the thing you shot them with was a nice plastic 1911 light pistol. I thought that was great and un-PC at the time.
JD, Disney now has something similar with the Buzz Lightyear ride, shooting lasers at targets (I *did* use the Dr. Evil finger-quotes when I typed "lasers", by the way).
I remember going to Disney for the first time in 1974 at age 7 and spending every C ticket (IIRC) I had on that shooting gallery.
Chances are pretty good that your buddy walked right past my family, Jay.
*Personally, I think it should be a federal requirement that parents take their kids to Disney at least once before they're teenagers, so that they'll have memories of that 'magical' period of their lives. Chances are pretty good that they'll keep them long into their adult-hood. Goodness knows I have & would give a finger to re-live that period. (okay, I need those, maybe a toe)
Ya, I have been on Buzz, the whole family loves it! we always see who can out shoot who on that one. I use to win all the time but the wife and kids are getting good. I think it has been a few visits since I got top gun on that one = )
We try to get down there every couple of years, it is my favorite place to vacation. . .
I was at Disney on October. I made sure to stop at the shooting arcade (just before the parade; I had my choice of rifles!) to take my turn shooting... It's amazing how much better I am now after getting a couple of Appleseed Shoots under my belt! Appleseed even helps you at the Arcade! :-)
As for Buzz Lightyear... I only scored 600,000 this year - Space Ranger, or something like that.
Yes, Ross, I get the point about the Appleseed shoot. :)
When is it, again? I may have to venture out to Haaahvud to give it a whirl.
'Course, I've got slim pickin's in the semi-auto rifle department. It's either the VEPR with only the one 5 round magazine, the SKS that's single-shot more often than not, or the tube-fed Sears .22LR...

Open Invitation for New Shooters
Just want to extend an open invitation to all potential new shooters in the Northern Virginia area. If you have never shot a firearm, or would like to get back into the shooting sports, or are an accomplished shooter who'd like to try something in my arsenal, give me a shout.
New shooters get range time, targets, gun use and ammo on me. I've even got extra eye and ear protection - all you have to do is show up.

Did I mention that my son was actually a pretty good shot, too? That was the best thing of all...
Given how long it's been since his dad last went shooting, that is kinda surprising...
(That's a hint, son...)
:)

There are ways to make sure that you always defeat the rest of the family. :)
Not that I've taken advantage of such shortcuts in order to win (ahem).

I need help...
:)
I remember visiting Disney as a kid and there was a shooting gallery in the game room at the big hotel with the monorail, too.
