WASHINGTON (AP) - Roger Clemens told Yankees teammate Andy Pettitte nearly 10 years ago that he used human growth hormone, Pettitte said in a sworn affidavit to Congress, The Associated Press learned Tuesday.
Pettitte disclosed the conversation to the congressional committee holding Wednesday's hearing on drug use in baseball, a person familiar with the affidavit said. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the document had not been made public.
WTF? Seriously? Our Congress has nothing better to do than investigate whether or not Roger Clemens took performance enhancing steroids over a fucking decade ago? Really?
This would explain why Congress's approval rating is hovering somewhere between trial lawyers and anal warts...

yeah, aren't there some non-binding resolutions, and baseless impeachment procedings they can be doing?
God I wish I had a job that was so demanding!
Long story short, yes, they have the authority. "IF" they should be meddling is always a question of priorities in the same vein as to "if" we should be using police man-hours to capture people who grow pot plants in their back yards.
Two things are for sure:
1. There are few things more stomach churning than politicians preening for the camera & trying to score a few points with the electorate while playing 'tough' with professional athletes (while requesting their autographs when the cameras are off).
2. If congress (see: McCain) hadn't stepped in a few years back when steroids were rampant in MLB, Bud Selig & company would still be fighting the MLBPA over testing and nothing - NOTHING - would have been changed. Score one for the gov't in that it finally made Don Fehr & company scared enough to acquiesce to something so dramatic as.....urine tests for anabolic steroids. That is the only thing that made the union do a 180 on testing. Otherwise, we'd still be seeing 500 foot homers from 170 pound shortstops on a daily basis and Sammy Sosa would still be carrying those 20 extra pounds of muscle (gosh, those things disappeared around the same time testing was initiated. Go figure!).
"Maybe I Missed Something...
...but where the fuck in the Constitution is the government given the authorization to meddle in fucking games???"
Same place they are authorized to meddle with drugs of any kind.
They made it up.
What... and miss their chance to get their mugs all over television with some big baseball stars? You have to be kidding - of course they're going to milk it for all it's worth. *grin*
My Congressman, Tom Davis, is the one that started this bullshit, and I actually wrote to him and asked this VERY question while I was in Afghanistan. The response I got was that basically it was for the Children.
These guys are serious asshats. I'm glad it was Clemens and not Becket, but still, assinine.

TSO,
First off, thank you for your service.
Secondly, congrats on getting the hell outta MA.
Third, believe you me, I'm glad it was Clemens if it had to be a pro-baseball player...
