Rally, Couch Potatoes!

...Because, apparently, you're good for Gaia...
Walking does more than driving to cause global warming, a leading environmentalist has calculated.

Food production is now so energy-intensive that more carbon is emitted providing a person with enough calories to walk to the shops than a car would emit over the same distance. The climate could benefit if people avoided exercise, ate less and became couch potatoes. Provided, of course, they remembered to switch off the TV rather than leaving it on standby.

Heh. Heh heh heh. Heh heh heheheheheheheheheheheheh...

Listen closely, if you will, for pointed little heads exploding...

That is all.

The guy's comparison of beef production to the use of gasoline (once it is in the car) is very narrow in scope, so much so that it is likely misleading.

If he is going to do a comparison, do a real comparison.

He is completely ignoring getting the gasoline to the car. Such as getting the crude oil out of the ground, refining it into gasoline, transporting the gas to the gas station, etc.

A similar situation that I think the "eco minded" ignore is the additional energy used to make that "new more fuel efficient car" vs driving the gas guzzler already made that is sitting in your driveway.

The gas guzzler might use more gas per mile, but it takes alot of gas to equal the energy it takes to build a new car.
