weer'd beard, I think that one applies to some others (Ron Silver and LA resident Dennis Miller come to mind). I saw Hopper asked how he switched & became a Republican after his wild lefty days of the 60s & his answer was "I sobered up". He was born in KS & was raised in CA, IIRC. His wife is an active Dem, by the way.
There are many 'celebrities' who are coming out as righties. They're surprising only if one assumes that every Republican is a bible-thumping evangelical Christian who follows Pat Robertson. Well, all one needs to know to combat that is that the Nature Boy Ric Flair is a Republican. As is party-animal Sammy Hagar. As is bad-boy Alice Cooper.
Or, we can go to the standard for what one would never consider to be a Republican, based upon their lifestyle: Kid Rock
So was Joey Ramone, I think. -
By the way, folks......everyone needs to plunk down their $10 and watch "An American Carol". If you've ever complained about liberal Hollywood and why all the crap movies slam our country never seem to stop being released, wouldn't it be your duty to your own rhetoric to support the one feature length film that belies that notion and portrays America as a force of good? Otherwise, there's no reason for a studio to ever put out another one.
I've already paid once & will probably take my wife. Go. Do. It.
Besides, it's funny. Michael Moore is eviserated; what else do you need?
This is the thing we've waited for & bitched about...and it finished 9th over the weekend? Where are all the righties?
Dennis Miller has long had a "don't give me that crap" side; I remember him jabbing Clinton 10+ years ago, back when it was taboo in Hollywood to do so. He said Sept 11 was his "awakening", so to speak.
All- Agree 100% on seeing An American Carol. I took the wife to a matinee, and I'll see it again, just to give it more coin for its box office haul. It wasn't brilliant, but think of it as a version of "Airplane" written for a showing at the Republican National Convention.
I'm pretty sure Dennis Miller is more of a Libertarian than anything else. I'm not sure how long he's been voting for the good guys.... Now HERE'S a topic I can discuss. First off, my wife says that if there's anyone on the planet that I have a man-crush on, it's Dennis Miller, not some sports star. I've been a mark for the guy since he was more to the left back in the 90s. Also, I'm a member of the Dennis Miller Zone (similar to Rush's 24/7 club, basically it means I get all the podcasts of his radio show), so I get to hear every radio show he does & listen to him opine 3 hours every day.
Break: it's the best radio show going....unbelievably entertaining. Rush is the king & if politics rules your interests, then he's the man (I also listen to his show), but Denny has the best show, right now. End Break.
There's a growing movement amongst the right known as "Dennis Miller Republicans" & it's guys who are basically conservative but who are libertarian on some social issues. They don't really care about abortions being outlawed, but they definitely don't want Planned Parenthood getting taxpayer funds to perform them, they don't care about gay marriage, they're not all that worked up over porn or going after people who say dirty things in public (think Andrew Dice Clay). They're cognizant about the climate and recycle, but they don't buy into the global-warming scare mongers. They're tired of listening to people tell us how bad America is & how it's the cause of many of the world's problems. Their main issues are, right now, securing the borders, taking the fight to the terrorists, cutting taxes and cutting spending. Trace Adkins says he's a Dennis Miller Republican, by the way.
So, yeah, he's libertarian on some issues, but he's now a Republican who disagrees on many issues (and who of us doesn't?) & 9/11 - according to him - changed him greatly. Case in point: Al Franken is one of his friends, back from the SNL days, and he says that he's a great person and the world's best dad, but he'd NEVER vote for him.
I'm an evangelical Christian who considers himself more of a Dennis Miller Republican than I do a "moral majority Republican", even though I don't fit the bill entirely (not in favor of gay marriage, for example).

Open Invitation for New Shooters
Just want to extend an open invitation to all potential new shooters in the Northern Virginia area. If you have never shot a firearm, or would like to get back into the shooting sports, or are an accomplished shooter who'd like to try something in my arsenal, give me a shout.
New shooters get range time, targets, gun use and ammo on me. I've even got extra eye and ear protection - all you have to do is show up.

Yes and no. More like "Caused by the Apocalypse"
He's a New Yorker who made the switch when he saw terrorists attack his town.
If what I read was correct....
Ah. That would explain it.
Still. You've gotta admit... Dennis freakin' Hopper voting for John McCain??? That is a sign of End of Days...

That, and he probably wants to piss off his neighbors in Taos.(Assuming he still has his place there)
Billy was tops, Blue Velvet was pretty awesome too, and I can see the character as a conservative;the car, the oxygen and "PABST BLUE RIBBON!"

Dennis is now, officially, one of the good guys.
What you describe as a "Dennis Miller Republican" fits me to a T, Ricky.
Gay marriage? Hell, let 'em be as miserable as the rest of us - why should they be spared?
;)
