Northeast Blogger Winter Gathering...

Two weeks ago I hinted at a second Northeast Blogger's meeting, a winter get-together ideally at a brew pub or other such venue. While it would be nice to have a second shooting get-together this year, I'd like to have an event where we can meet and talk without having to stop and bayonet teletubbies first... In all seriousness, my biggest (only!) regret from the summer get-together is that I didn't get to chat with everyone nearly enough. There were so many fascinating and wonderful folks at the Bloggershoot that I would dearly have loved to have spent hours chatting with, but things like shooting Class III weaponry and classic firearms kept getting in the way...

That said, I proposed a brewery/brew pub type venue somewhere in the northern MA/southern NH area. That seemed to work pretty well for most folks, so now I think it's to nail down a time and location. I would guess that a Saturday night would offer the best chance for the most folks to make the event, but would be more than happy to entertain pretty much any day of the week if that's what folks want. Heck, I've got to burn four more vacation days by the end of the year, so if we can get enough people interested in a mid-week lunch event I'd be up for that, too...

So let's see if we can't nail down some specifics!

Location:

We have several suggestions on the table for a location:

Murphy's Taproom in Manchester, NH

Martha's Exchange in Nashua, NH

Lowell Brewery in Lowell, MA

Tap Brew Pub in Haverhill, MA (Okay, this one's all mine, because it's like five minutes from my house - I will offer sofa/floor space to anyone that wants to crash after a night at the Tap should we choose this location).

There's also the Portsmouth Brewery in Portsmouth NH, but the handful of times I've been there they've been wall-to-wall packed and parking is a PITA.

I'll even toss in Boston Beer Works for my homegirl Lissa, but it seemed like the general consensus was that people wanted to avoid Boston if possible...

One more: Red Hook Brewery in Portsmouth, NH as suggested by Wolfwalker. This is another decent choice, as it's right off 95 for those coming North or South and very close to 101 as well for those coming west...

Okay. Once we start hammering out the date, time, and location, things will fall into place. I would be happy to make some calls to prospective establishments to find out how large of a group they can accomodate (ideally we want a separate room if possible). I would guess at this point getting something going before Thanksgiving would be difficult (hmmm. How's everyone set for Friday night after Turkey day???); possibly before Christmas; ideally before New Year's - I've got lots of time off between Christmas and New Year's and would wager many others do as well.

We can make this work. We can make the non-Northeast bloggers jealous... *g* I want to add a whole bunch of new folks to the list of "Bloggers I've met. One last thing: the more the merrier. If there's anyone I overlooked, or who didn't comment on the last thread, chime in and let me know (also if I've inadvertantly forgotten to link anyone)... This time, the list is wide open, as there are several venues listed that can accomodate groups of pretty much any size.

That is all.

Gee, I guess I DO suck, for I have been removed from the "A" list...

D'OH!!!!!!! A thousand pardons, my dear friend. Please note that it has been corrected post-haste...

Depending on the date, I might be in. It looks like I am going to be a permanent north east resident starting 12/1, with the family following close after the new year...

Thanks Jay! Wow, I'm a homegirl. Remind me to wear a baseball cap to the Meet and pull it sideways so I look like (more of) an idiot :)

Jay,
Count me in, unless the event is on a Saturday. My progeny has ski clinic sessions most Saturdays in December through early March.

I'm in and fine with any of the locations. Heh, if you think parking is a pain at Portsmouth, you should scratch Boston beer works. :P I'd most prefer Lowell BW, Marthas, or Murphys.

Lowell? ok, I am good with Nashua too. . . Saturday sounds good to me.
Need a date but if it is at all possible I will be there!!

I'm in, as long as we can do it on a Friday or Saturday.

My (entirely selfish) preference would be Murphy's, since that's closest to the Munchkin Wranch, but I'll bow to majority consent.

Okay, it's starting to come together...

So far, Brad's the only one who has a problem with Saturday - is that during the day, though? Like, if we had an evening event could you make the tail end?

I'm thinking that Murphy's is starting to look like it might be the place. It's pretty central to our NH and ME bloggers, and yet not too terribly far even from Boston (should only be 45 minutes to an hour even with traffic).

Plus they allow open carry for folks not drinking IIRC...

Let's get a few more attendees chiming in and I'll make a few calls...

Martha's is decently located between the Mass guys and the New Hampshire ones.

Friday after Thanksgiving I'll be out of state visiting family, but Saturdays would be good (heck, most Fridays, too).

All depending on when it happens Fridays might be best for me. Portsmouth would be best for me but if parking sucks then I can deal with any other location.

Also, inquiring minds want to know if Liberty will act out his "Princess Bride" scene ....

One more possibility that deserves to be considered: the Red Hook Brewery on Pease Tradeport. It's a combined pub _and_ brewery, and they give tours of the brewery section. Plenty of parking, too.

I'd seriously consider hoofing it up to Red Hook at Pease, if they still have their killer bangers & mash, that is. Getting there/parking are easy. But Murphy's is not a problem at all, either.

Saturday: not a problem. And I'll see if I can dig up a baseball hat, too.

I vote for Marsha's in Nashua, but I'll go along with the majority. If it's an evening thing, I'll going to give serious consideration to a hotel room so I don't have to drive home. That's location dependent to a degree.

Early December is probably best, before everyone gets tied up with the holidays.

At least best for me!

I won't be able to do this winter. Maybe something in the summer?
