Excellent read. As an old tanker, I’ve had the distinct privilege of puttin’ rounds down range in both an M60A3 & an M1A1. I’ve shot a lot of lead in my days, but nothing beats the experience of putting a 105mm or 120 mm round on target and watching steel fly.
Jeff Cooper describes shooting one in one chapter of "To Ride, Shoot Straight, and Speak the Truth."
He wanted to keep the target. ;-)
LOL- raise the round size, raise the complexity... Multiply that by about a factor of 4 and you get what goes on onboard ship with the old 16in guns. They were pretty good too (CEP of 100yards at max range)!
Ahh, the Good Ole Days..... direct fire ranges on an m110a2...... skipping a 203mm HE into a car body... I imagine the plastic/aluminum cars of today would just disappear instead being rent and twisted......
