We Will Bury You...

Here's a question: Why is the media so incredibly interested in Sarah Palin's grandson?

No official word yet on weekend birth of Palin grandchild

Newspaper: Woman whose son fathered Palin grandchild is arrested

Good and bad news proves Sarah Palin is still a player

Bristol Palin's Baby Is Born

Sarah Palin, grandmother

Just Call Sarah Palin "Grandma"!

Palin Daughter Pops

Palin’s Daughter Gives Birth to Son

It's a boy for Bristol Palin

Palin's daughter gives birth to son named Tripp

That's 10 stories pulled right off a Google search for "Palin Grandchild". Most of the major news outlets are represented - Washington Post, Associated Press, NY Times, etc. - and for the most part, the stories are on the main page. The birth of Tripp Johnson should, by any account, be a minor blip in the news, not front page fodder across the nation. We're talking about the grandson of the Republican candidate for Vice President of the losing ticket.

This is not a story that warrants such scrutiny.

Unless, of course, the media is sending a not-so-subtle message to Sarah Palin: "We're watching you. And your family". Right now, as things stand, she's the hands-on favorite for the GOP nomination in 2012 - she'll have another 4 years as Alaska's governor, she's got the name recognition, and she won't have the anchor of John McCain holding her back. The media wants to get the message to Palin that her family is squarely in their crosshairs to get her out of the spotlight.

I can't think of another reason for the media to invest this much time, energy, and electrons in a story about the woman's grandchild. There's simply nothing there - it's not like Bristol changed her mind and opted for an abortion; she hasn't given the child up for adoption; Sarah didn't kick her out of the house, etc. There is nothing meriting a front page anything here. Except, perhaps, to reinforce the message that they're still watching the Palin family, and will be more than happy to invest time and energy into hounding them for as long as it takes.

Sure would have been nice to see this level of interest in Obama's ties to IL gov. Blagojevich, wouldn't it?

That is all.

I hope it backfires on them. All this time in the news and folks may be comfortable in voting for her next time. They will feel like they know her and what she has done. . . .

we can only hope. . . go media, get her the name recognition, show us how she is just like us and push her into the White House!

I'm not sure how that moves their agenda forward, so it's hard to see allocating scarce resources to that story. Just trying to think like an editor.

I think Heinlein's Razor applies: "You have attributed conditions to villainy that simply result from stupidity". The mass media haven't yet realized that Palin is no longer a national news item.

I'd like to believe that, but in this case my razor said that it is deliberate and intended.

The case for this supposition? Try to find these same articles regarding Sarah Palin's church being burned down by an arsonist.

While some media outlets did have an article posted, it was very brief, disappeared. And when it was confirmed that the suspicious fire was indeed arson and incorporated an accelerant - no mention was made of it.

No, it's not that the media hasn't realized Sarah Palin is no longer news. Rather, the media has a standing order to sabotage Sarah Palin as much as possible.

The mainstream media is not journalism anymore...it is merely a propaganda machine.

There is another way to look at this: she's a mega-superstar and her name sells papers & garners viewers.

Which, by the way, is absolutely true. Recall the SNL ratings when she appeared & Greta's ratings when she gave the interview & her speech at the convention.

If not for Palin, McCain loses by 15 (we all know it). Personally, I hope she waits 'til '16, because the media is not going to stop its adoration for their newly minted addition to Camelot after just one term. He's their guy just like a cub belongs to its mother.

Lie low, Queen Sarah. Bide your time, hone your craft, give some policy speeches and gain some world experience. Then, become the first female Prez, defeating Hillary (who should be quite aged, haggard, wrinkly and around 250 lbs by then).

But, do they hate her? You betcha!

I'd be tempted to buy the "Sarah sells papers" bit if it wasn't for the "ZOMG Palin's daughter's boyfriend's mother iz teh druggeh" bits.

WTF? We have to go to three degrees of separation to find something damaging? That's not selling papers. That's smearing by association.

Al Gore's kid getting busted for drugs wasn't treated like this.

Joe Biden's daughter's arrest for assaulting a police officer wasn't handled like this.

Hell, John Edwards' affair wasn't covered to this extent.

I'm leaning towards the "Sarah Palin scares the ever-lovin' snot out of the Dems/MSMS so they're doing their level best to crush her now" theory...

Eh. Honestly? This shit sells papers. That's it. It's the same junk that sells People and National Inquirer and US and all the rest of that garbage, but the big papers can 'pretend' it's actually newsworthy because it's about a politician rather than a pop-star/actress. That's it. plain and simple.

I don't know that it's just that this kind of story sells papers - I have a feeling that the "Media" like running this kind of story so they don't have to look too closely at the realities of what's going on with their Wonder Boy and his Pals.

"Sure, our guys are all under investigation, but look over there! That Palin crone is a grandmother now!"

I only feel this way about the MSM because I've been exposed to them for over 40 years.
