Boogety, Boogety, Boogety...

...Let's go racin' boys!

It's the Pinewood Derby today. We were at the church setting up the track and racing software until 11 last night, making sure that today's Derby runs without a hitch. Time to see what the car can do - and hopefully will get to post the second set of pictures later...

UPDATE: The Boy took third place for the Wolf Scouts. Not too shabby!

That is all.

Good luck at the derby.
Hope the Boy comes out at the head of the pack.

Third place? Way cool. I'm going to guess that you didn't take my suggestion that you shape the car like an AMC Gremlin to heart.

Hey, how did you do in the Old Goats races?

Congrats to your son for a great effort.

Thanks everyone. The Boy is a little disappointed - I think after last year's first place showing, he expected to win it all again this year.

Problem is, last year he was a Tiger Cub. I, as his "adult partner" was supposed to help with the car, and I did.

This year, he did everything that didn't require power tools or a hammer. I gave him some pointers and helped him along, but he did at least 80% of the work all on his own.

I'd say he did more work than most of the Scouts there, up to and including the WeBeLoS IIs.

Had he put a little more time into the car (sanding and graphite), he could have taken first place easily. But several times he was more interested in watching TV or playing Wii, and chose not to work on it as much as he could have (and as much as dear old dad told him he needed to...)

Next year he'll put more work in, and we'll see what happens...

As for dear old dad and the project car, it took a respectable fourth place in the adult/non-scout racing. Out of 29 participants...

Bearing in mind that this car was not build for speed but as a learning experience, I'm quite pleased.

Next year, however, I'm going for pure speed...

Pics will be forthcoming. I want to post the second (concluding) part to "So You Want to Build a Pinewood Derby Racer" tomorrow morning, and of course the final shot is the completed car...
