More "You Might Be A Gun Nut"...

You might be a gun nut if people call you up asking to borrow a .22LR pistol to take a new shooter to the range.

And you have to take a minute to respond, not because you're trying to figure out if you should acquiesce or not, but because you're trying to figure out which .22LR pistol to lend...

That is all.

Wheel gun, semi-auto,small frame, large frame? Hell you need to take them all just to show the difference. Besides you need to shoot them all amyway-so you can clean them.

I'll fess up, I'm the guilty one. The problem is, of all our guns, not a single one is a .22. I'll be bringing the security six w/ some light .38spcls and .357mags, the beretta 92fs w/ 9mm, and the .45s and the rifles in 5.56x45... but I really didn't want to start a total newb out on the security six with .38special. I'd rather be able to start them on a .22.

Yes, the .22 situation is slated to be addressed, but hasn't happened just yet!

Hey, nothing to be guilty about! I didn't get a .22LR pistol until about 4 years ago. It's not something you really think of, until you actually *have* one...

And where you guys reload, the cost-savings of shooting a .22 vs. a centerfire are nowhere near as dramatic as it is for me...

Revolver or Semi? If revolver; single or double action? If semi: with iron sights or scope. The pre-war Woodsman or the newest polymer frame .22? YAH! Damn hard question.

Actually, it was revolver to start with.

And given that I only have one SA revolver, and that's the NAA mini-22, even that's not too hard to call.

The question, then, was, should it be the Colt with the fixed sights; the Smith with the target set-up; or the H&R for plinking?

Jay,

Here's one vote for the '17. That sucker shoots like a dream -- and the trigger is deliciously light when fired in SA mode. And maybe you bring the 422 along for comparison.

So who's the victim? Anyone I know?

The model 17 is absolutely my 1st choice for a new shooter.

Jay's shoots like a wet-dream: Accurate as hell, light trigger, ZERO recoil and simple as can be given it's a revolver.

It's tops on our list of pistols to get, but seeing as I just sent off the last check to the gunsmiith for the complete re-working of my Springfield 1911, we're done buying guns for a bit.

Dwight: the victim's a coworker. :) I will spread the joy around, I will I will!

Brad,

Don't worry. The Model 17 is the obvious choice IMHO as well. It seems to be unanimous...

Bill,

You know how you can tell the Model 17 is a great shooting gun?

Even Jay "Minute of Berm" G. can make hits with it... ;)

"You might be a product of a less then free state..." if the first thing that comes to mind when you read this post is: "Loan someone a handgun? Is that legal in MA? Hell, is that legal HERE?"
