That's How They Roll Down There...

Police: 1 suspect dead in attempted home invasion; 2nd may be wounded
KNOXVILLE - Knoxville police have identified a young man killed this morning during an attempted home invasion in South Knoxville that ended in an exchange of gunfire.

They are withholding the identification pending notification of next of kin, Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk said.

The young man was fatally shot and a second suspect may have been wounded in the gunfire at 814 Carls Lane off Cherokee Trail.

Gotta love a story with a happy ending. Homeowner 1.5, Goblins 0. Heh.

And give props to the guy for awareness:
The incident began when the homeowner said he heard someone knocking on his door about 5:25 a.m., according toDeBusk.

The homeowner said he put a handgun in his pocket as he went to the door.

Yep. Anyone knocks on my door at 5 in the morning, I'm grabbing a gun too. In fact, pretty much anytime someone knocks on my door I'll have a firearm handy. Sure, it might look like a meter reader; it might BE a meter reader. But you just never know, and better to have five rounds of .38 Special at the ready just in case it is a ruse.

In Knoxville, people seem to forget that trying to burst into someone’s home is a good way to have your insides introduced to the light of day.

Indeed.

Dead Goblin Count: 23.

That is all.

Only take a .38 special to the door? Come on Jay, you're in your home, concealment is not an issue (besides, you have the door to conceal), and you may have just woken up. Why not give yourself the advantage of 8 rounds of double 00 buck?

O.K., I have a question, not to play Monday Morning Quarterback, but why answer the door?

Someone knocks on my door, I yell through it and never open it up unless I know who it is.
