Going Around the 'Net...

...is this little bit of cheer, right in my own backyard:

Proposed bill would allow state authorities to quarantine people during pandemic
BOSTON -- A new proposed bill designed to combat the threat of the H1N1 virus would allow the state to forcefully quarantine people in the event of a pandemic.

Anyone who refuses to comply with the quarantine order could face jail time or a $1000 per day fine.

The "Pandemic Response Bill" would also force health providers to vaccinate people, authorize forcible entry into private homes, and impose fines or prison sentences on anyone not complying with isolation or quarantine orders.

This is over the "swine flu", a particularly benign form of influenza so far. It's being touted as the next Black Death by the media, blown as usual all out of proportion in the race to sensationalize and terrorize an ignorant populus. And the state of Massachusetts, big surprise here, is using it as a large lever with which to insert the nanny state ever further into our lives. Actual text of the bill can be found here.

What's that? A overreaching act by a desperate state which treats its residents as chattel? Surely you jest! Not only that, but the penalty for disobeying big Nanny MA is a fine - notice that - even in times of pandemic, the state is always thinking of ways to seize money from her subjects residents.

So the state can imprison you, fine you, seize your property, and otherwise make your life a living hell, all because of a relatively minor disease. Some 600 people have died from the H1N1 virus in the US since the outbreak in March, with the first reported case occurring in April. 600 deaths in nearly six months, or roughly 30 times less deaths per year than traffic accidents, yet the state of MA hasn't seen fit to forcibly remove people from their cars (something I might be inclined to agree with some days...)

I don't know what more needs to be said. This is what we have to look forward to in 0bama's America once they manage to ram "Universal Health Care" down our collective throats. Once the government controls the purse strings to our health care, it's only a matter of time before they realize they can make all kinds of intrusions on our liberty in the name of public health.

MA: Yet again paving the way for nanny state totalitarianism. Yay us!

That is all.

Well, they are trying to start em young, to get used to the government in their lives. Will your kids be subject to 0bama's propaganda in their schools?

Funny how they want to do it with the swine flu, but couldn't be bothered to do it with HIV/AIDS, which would have been a much easier task to implement, since HIV is spread less easily than the swine flu.

liberyman,

Heh, that's pretty funny, considering what my next post was...

If the school was planning on showing the speech, I would be keeping my kids home tomorrow...

Bob,

That's because those diseases aren't "politically correct" - they affect people in "protected" groups, remember?

They are making the assumptions that A)Public safety employees will do this, and 2)They will have enough people at work in order to do this.

If this is bad enough for tactics as outlined in this bill, neither is a given. Public safety employees are going to be at least as susceptible to this flu as everyone else. Maybe more so if the vaccine doesn't actually work.

A lot of those who are not sick are going to stay home to care for family members who ARE sick. Others are going to stay home because they fear for their family's safety.

If this is bad enough, which I don't think it will be, gun owners are going to be glad that they are gun owners.

And Bob, remember that quarantining gays would be homophobic, although HIV/AIDS is a threat to us all, right? Or those are the two conflicting messages delivered when quarantining gays was mentioned in the past.

Actually, quarantining people with HIV/AIDS that good an idea as it's a difficult disease to catch in that you generally have to take some sort of action to get it.
