New giant rat species discovered
LONDON, England (CNN) -- Scientists have discovered a new species of giant rat in a remote rainforest in Papua New Guinea.

Measuring 82 centimeters (32.2 inches) from nose to tail and weighing around 1.5 kilograms (3.3 pounds), the species is thought to be one of the largest rats ever to be found.

Be warned: There are pictures. This thing is freakin' huge - 2½ feet long - and I wouldn't want to get within 20 feet of one of these sumbitches without something with "12 gauge 3½ Magnum Chamber" stamped on the side. Something tells me you'd know if one of these were sniffing around your pantry. Most likely measured on the Richter scale...

Which, naturally, begs the question: What's the best caliber for ROUS?

That is all.

Take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Oh, and only because I must

Rats that large?

INCONCEIVABLE!

Just what the world needs, a three foot long rat. Don't we have enough exceptionally large rodents in the State House already?

Just asking.

That word you keep using. I do not think it means what you think it means...

How close to Sumatra is that? I don’t think Watson’s trusty service revolver is big enough. Perhaps one of Col. Moran’s big double rifles?

What's the big deal? It looks like a sweetie!

What's yer problem with rats?

As for Caliber, they aren't THAT big, .22 LR would do it. .22 WMR if we're talking about the movie ones.

Why use .22 WMR to do the job, if something larger will do it better and be more fun? Besides, then when someone asks the question "Why do you NEED a .50 BMG sniper rifle?", you can answer with a straight face "ROUSes

I'm thinking a 10 gauge w/buckshot.
(For comparison, a 12 gauge 00 buckshot is a 9 pellet load, a 10 gauge 00 buckshot is a 18 pellet load)

All you need to do now is buy The Boy a pet reptile big enough to dine on those sumbitches...

Anything less than a 12 guage would not seem adequate. Of course, encountering one of those puppies in the middle of the night in my pantry would require a some serious exchange of lead along with a new change of drawers.

In related news Dicks Sporting Goods just received their shipment of Federal Black Cloud 3.5 inch magnums in #2 and BB just in time for early season goose.
