Carter: Racism plays major role in opposition to Obama
(CNN) -- Former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday that racial politics played a role in South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst during President Obama's speech to Congress last week and in some of the opposition the president has faced since taking office.
"I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he's
African-American," Carter told NBC News. "I live in the South, and I've seen the South come a long way, and I've seen the rest of the country that shares the South's attitude toward minority groups at that time, particularly African-Americans."
Got that? Jimmy's just clarifying that "dissent is racist". Don't like 0bama's socialism? Racist. Don't like the fact that ACORN, a group that employed 0bama, has all the scruples of Bernie Madoff? Racist. Think ramming government-sponsored health care down our throats is a risky proposition at best and rampant communism at worst? Racist.
See, the problem is two-fold. First, it completely and utterly trivializes real racism, which is still an issue in this country today. Secondly, it becomes this all-encompassing magic shield - any criticism of Barack 0bama will forever be tagged with "racism" simply because of the color of the man's skin. Isn't that in and of itself racist? Assuming that the only reason one might disagree with the mighty 0 is his pigment? That's ludicrous on its face.
What's the problem, Jimmy? Afraid 0bama's going to supplant you in the "Worst. President. Ever" category?
That is all.

Holy brother of Moses Jay, you have hit the mark with this one. I was at a session with my physical terrorist last night when I first heard Carter's drivel. My first reaction was to YELL at the TV and tell Carter two things . . . first to STFU and secondly to get his scrawny two-bit hick ass back to Plains, GA so he could grow some more peanuts.
Thank you for helping me vent my spleen on this one.

Remember this: Carter is probably the only former president who would lose overwhelmingly were he to try running for state-wide office in his own state. He is considered a joke here in Georgia and is as welcome to represent us as Bill Buckner would be if he were the go-to guy to speak for Massachusettans.
The only thing he did yesterday was push a few more people into the anti-Obama category by overplaying the race card so egregiously.
See, the problem is two-fold.
I would say three-fold. To your two, I add this: the risk of a backlash. Barry Lackwit is well on his way to being the worst president since Carter, and may even pass Carter to become the worst president since 1900. If this connection between his performance and his race really takes hold, then his failure may become associated with his race as well ... leading to a situation where blacks in general aren't seen as qualified for holding elected office.
I've got a better idea, let Carter speak all he wants. The more people hear that anti Semitic asshat ex President speak, the more they will remember all the things he did to help the US when he was President.
Stopped supporting the Shah.
Gave away the Panama Canal.
Gutted funding for the US military.
Stagflation.
Iran Hostage Crisis.
The more people remember that and identify him with President Feckless, the better off we'll be.
Mr. Carter,
I know it's impossible for you to believe, but I'm a white man who was raised by white parents to live by the words, "judge a man by the content of his character, not the color of his skin."
And those words were spoken by whom?
Is it, by your logic, impossible for me to follow that ideal? I don't get it. I've bought into the "colorblind" notion hook, line and sinker, just the way my public school indoctrinated me to. And this is the fruit of all that? Really? Are you serious?
Or are you showing that the goalposts are always on the move?

'nuff said!
I'm so tired of "racist". I'm not sure what it means anymore.
I don't think Congressman Wilson's remark was racist, but it was bad manners, the proverbial "fart in church", if you will.
If my kids had done that, I'd have had to straighten them out. So would you.
(sigh)
Seriously, can we vote him off the island yet?
(sigh)
Jimmy Carter: if being wrong hurt, I'd be in constant pain.
It seems like no matter what happens, there will always be an issue of racism to some degree.
