MArooned Minute Review...

Over the weekend, I made an impulse purchase. While at Staples doing some last-minute back-to-school shopping, I grabbed a new portable keyboard to go with my Eee. It's an Omnitech (Staples' in-house brand) flexible keyboard, which was going for the princely sum of $10. I'd been looking for a USB keyboard to go with the Eee that I could just toss in the carry bag as something more useful than the teeny keyboard on the Eee itself, and was willing to try out a flexible keyboard for $10...

Interestingly enough, it works pretty darn well. The typing is a little different; it takes a little getting used to compared to a standard full-size keyboard, but a good deal less than the little-bitty one on the Eee. And since it's eminently foldable, it fits nicely on top of the Eee itself in the Targus case, meaning I can bring it, the Eee, and a wireless mouse along any time I want über-portable surfing potential. Well worth the $10.

The Omnitech Flexible Keyboard earns an enthusiastic thumbs up.

That is all.

Buy a backup. While cool, these keyboards die pretty quickly compared to a conventional one. Of course, I was using mine 3 days a week on travel, and it lasted bout four months.

Hey, it has to be flexible, it's a trade off. One I'd gladly pay again if I had to do that travel schedule again.

Rick,

I'm going to grab another one (or two even) the next chance I get (should be this weekend; I'm gonna make an ammo run soon and Staples is next to Wal-Mart...).

And you got it - for $10, it's so much better than the dinky Eee keyboard I'll gladly pay it again... ;)

i picked one of those up last night for my own Eee. I'm working on getting used the having to hit the exact middle of the keys and the keystroke depth, but it is much easier to type on that the miniscule keyboard the thing comes with...

It WILL give you the Columbus Typing Technique (find a key and land on it). For 80 WPM touch typing, they ain't.

OTH, they do fit nicely in a carry bag, don't they?
