Only In Massachusetts...

Here are some local stories to further illustrate what life is like living behind the Red Curtain here in the Volksrepublik of MA:

SELECTMAN SUGGESTS DETRACTORS LEAVE TOWN
UXBRIDGE — About 10 residents went to the selectmen's meeting last night to tell panel member Beth Pitman what they thought about a statement she made at the Sept. 28 meeting.

Ms. Pitman said if residents couldn't afford to pay for a new high school they should consider moving out of town.

Ah, yes. The Massachusetts way - if you don't like it, move. Funny, I thought that there was some consternation about MA losing population and a possible Congressional seat not all that long ago. Seems Ms. Pitman might want to reconsider her blossoming career as an advice columnist...

Holbrook crash demonstrates value of cameras on T buses
When Susan Brown allegedly fell asleep at the wheel Monday and hit an MBTA bus, it was not immediately clear what had happened. But as in many other incidents involving motorists, passengers, and possible crime suspects over the past two years, cameras on the bus captured Brown’s actions.

Go see the video. Thank goodness it was a bus she hit and not a motorcyclist...

Prisoners to get precious swine flu shots before you
Thousands of state inmates will get coveted swine-flu vaccinations weeks before law-abiding Bay Staters - who foot the bill for prisons - have a shot at protecting themselves, state public health officials have decided.

Yep. MA has, in its infinite wisdom, decided that a captive population - i.e. folks who shouldn't be at risk for communicable diseases - should have first crack at the H1N1 vaccine. No word on my ingenous plan to distribute another kind of shot to certain prisoners...

Family, DA Disappointed By Bar Killing Sentence
There were few dry eyes in a Suffolk Superior courtroom as sentencing in a 2007 South Boston killing drew emotional pleas from not only the victim's relatives, but also the convicted killer, who has Multiple Sclerosis and no prior criminal record.
...
Judge Linda Giles gave him 6, explaining that M.S. is a veritable life sentence and that Piscopo has led a stable and productive life, except for that fateful night. Although the sentence the judge imposed came much closer to the defense request than that of the prosecution, she said Bernard Piscopo "savagely and brutally" attacked Adam Rich who "undoubtedly suffered unimaginable pain with each twist of the knife."

Got that? Six years even though THE JUDGE admitted the killing was brutal. SIX FUCKING YEARS for murder. He'll be out in 4 or less. For murdering someone in cold blood over a spilled drink. Welcome to MA. You're more likely to skate on a murder conviction here.

Now do y'all understand why I bring a wheelbarrow of rage to the party?

That is all.

"a stable and productive life" that is, up until he killed someone! Wow, and he will get his flu shot before you do!

Uh, no. High-density concentrations of humans, such as in a jail, an army camp, or an inner city slum, are at very high risk of communicable diseases like the flu. The steady, high stress degrades the immune system, and the close quarters ensures that the germ can spread rapidly. All it takes is one carrier to bring the germ in from outside -- a guard, a maintenance man, a visitor. And once it's established in the prison population, it can travel out again the same ways.

Ms. Pitman - way ahead of you. I'm never coming back to Taxachussetts - it's all yours.

Lots of people got sick from the last swine flu vaccine that they distributed back in the 1970s. Think of it as the prisoners being used as a bunch of guinea pigs.
