Rats are wreaking havoc in the North End, burrowing through walls, gnawing through wires, and feasting on the neighborhood’s surfeit of discarded pizza boxes and restaurant garbage, aggrieved residents and the neighborhood’s frustrated city councilor testified yesterday.
“It’s as if we’re living in a Third World country, and our community has turned into a rat infestation nightmare, causing property damage and spreading disease,’’ Anne M. Pistorio, a member of the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association, told a hearing of the City Council.
Hmmm. They really shouldn't refer to Beacon Hill that way. Someone might start up the RADL - Rat Anti-Defamation League - for suggesting that the Rattus rattus is as bad as a MA politician...
Speaking thereof, there's a rumor that research universities in Massachusetts are bowing to pressure from PETA and are going to replace the laboratory rats they normally experiment on with local politicians. Aside from the humane aspect, there are three stated reasons for the switch:
- There's a lot more politicians.
- There's some things rats won't do.
- The technicians don't get as attached to the politicians.
That is all.

Jay,
Has anyone with a measurable quantity of brain cells told these 'North End' clots that the main reason rats gather in a given area in large numbers is that THERE'S LOTS OF FOOD AVAILABLE FOR THE RATS TO EAT!
If they want something useful done, someone needs to tell them to GET OFF OF THEIR WELFARE INFLATED ASSES AND CLEAN UP THE CRAPHOLE THAT THEY ARE LIVING IN!
No thinking required. No really difficult work required, either.
In addition, I would like to point out that in many so-called third world countries, an infestation of rats is often the prelude to a feast: dad and the kids go out hunting rats, while mom gets the stew pot (bar-b-que, wok, etc.) ready.
Seriously, do these people expect the clotting government to get their little paws dirty killing better creatures than themselves?
"Try the veal...and remember to tip your waitress!"
