Friday Gun Pr0n #148

Today's gun pic is another in a series of reader submissions. This one comes from my fellow MAhole, commenter, and someone I'm proud to call friend, Ross.

Don't Tread Indeed

The less-than-ideal picture quality resulting from a quick picture taken with a cell phone camera is greatly outweighed by the sheer awesomeness of this gun. A Smith & Wesson model 442 .38 Special +P with the Gadsden flag engraved on the sideplate. What could possibly convey the message of the Gadsden better than a pocket revolver?

Mere words cannot express how badly I want this revolver...

That is all.

Nice Heater, Ross!

Where'd you get that one?

Given that it's sitting in the S&W case, I'm guessing it's passing through work.

Zeeke42 got it.

Weerd, Ross found himself a sweet gig workin' for a gun distributor.

He mentioned it on NES a while back...

What do you think of this?

Well, it's got the enthusiastic backing of GOAL (Gun Owners Action League, the state-level 2A Advocacy group in MA), so that's a good sign.

I'm not a fan of it being AUTOMATICALLY illegal for someone under 18 to fire a machine gun, though - that scares the HELL out of me, because once they've got that particular camel's nose in the tent, what's to stop them from saying ALL firearms are verboten?

zeeke42 said...

Under the current law, it's questionable whether it's legal for ANYONE who doesn't have a green card to handle/fire a machine gun.

Wally said...

Current law is debatable at best. I don't support the 'green card to handle' proposed rule - that is more draconian than any other rule on the book.

Good on them for attempting to streamline the licensing classes too.

But does this open the way for a 'green stripe card' - allowing you to handle and shoot MGs but not permission to purchase them?

ETA : is the proposed bill 'right to carry' or is it simply standardized discression at the state level, not the town level ?

The latter could be dreadful depending on the opinion of the administrator....

As I understand it, the proposed rule is green card holder *present* to handle. This doesn't seem to impose anything that isn't already effectively required for resident's MGs. I'm not sure where current law stands re non residents and MGs. Personally, if I were a non-resident, I'd probably never consider bringing NFA stuff in to MA. It just wouldn't be worth the legal issues.

The bill would make MA shall issue. It would replace our present morass of licenses with one. The privileges would increase with age. (15/18/21 is possess long gun/buy long guns/posses,buy,carry handguns)

holder present to handle is in line with fed position on MGs.

If MA becomes 'shall issue' doesn't that mean green cards are available again?

Nonres MGs are also vague at best. I am a nonres with fed-blessed travel papers for MGs and SBRs. But without a MA NR LTCA, I can't have mags for them (ugh) so the next toy is going to be belt fed. Then, uh, I'd only need a MA NR FID to have ammo?

Jay & Ross - sorry for the 'jack.

Green cards are available now, though with the same local discretionary morass as LTCs.

I've never heard of an NR FID, only LTCs, but I haven't looked in to it. I'm not sure about belt feds. I once heard a semi-auto beltfed owner talk about only assembling >10 round belts with 'pre-ban' links, but they may have been joking. Obviously there's no way to tell the age of a link.

Wally said...

But as I am a nonres, there is no process for me to even get a green card. BATFE has told me (in writing) that it is ok with them and ok with MA for me to bring MGs in for personal use. Current permit expires 3/15/10 and I've put in for a renewal. This will be my first renewal Post-Hanson, so we will see what they say.
OTOH, who wants to shoot my M16 or 635 in MA prior to 3/15 ? BYOM (mags) :-)

I do have a stash of preban, dated links. 1980 was a good year :-) I am still working on a big stash of magnets before I'll shoot those links!

A link is a 1-round clip (not magazine!) therefor not hicap. Not sure on the MA LCAFD wording of regulated 'belts' though. I asume cloth belts would need to be pre-94[because there are sooo many new production 08/15 belts?!] But if a belt were made of links prior to 1994, then dissassembled by firing perhaps, you should be able to reassemble ad infinitum.

NR FID (or all FIDs) would be obsolete if MA goes 'shall issue'. I'd go for a NR LTC easily enough, but the newish nonres permit stinks. Apply, then wait until they schedule me an interview in Chelsea ? It's only a 2 hr ride for me, spent many happy years living in Chelsea, but still it's the principle of adding more hurdles.

Jay - Ross - owe you a beer for th e massive threadjack.

Wouldn't the Gadsden flag be better engraved on the bullets? Then the results would be impressed for all time if the weapon saw action.

Dragging this back on topic through sheer cussedness, that's Lew Horton's new offering. I know for a fact that there's one at K&R Target Sports in Hudson (or there was earlier this week, and as they haven't ordered another, I'm guessing it's still there).

Tell 'em Ross sent ya.

Word verification: feerful. Don't be feerful to spend the coin on that beautiful gun, Jay!!

A battle rifle?

I'm wondering how many depictions of the Gadsden Flag I can acquire ... there's the sticker on my truck ... the laser engraving on my AR ... a woodburning on the kitchen wall... and now a S&W wheelie with it? That's damn tempting, but does it have the zit? And how much am I going to drop for it?

WV: brangr

Second comment: whoever did their artwork screwed the pooch.

The original Gadsden has no apostrophe.

"DONT TREAD ON ME".
