Google reports China-based attack, says pullout possible
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Google said Tuesday the company and at least 20 others were victims of a "highly sophisticated and targeted attack" originating in China in mid-December, evidently to gain access to the e-mail accounts of Chinese human rights activists.

"Based on our investigation to date we believe their attack did not achieve that objective," according to a statement by David Drummond, senior vice president of corporate development and chief legal officer for Google, operator of the most popular Internet search engine.

Imagine that. China had to attack Google before Google realized that elements in China were less-than-friendly to all human rights - including intellectual property rights. An informal search shows the earliest possible incarnation of Google starting in the mid 1990s - half a decade after Tienneman Square. Sorry guys, you can't claim you didn't see this coming. Complaining that the Chinese don't respect your rights is a lot like complaining the Klan is not politically correct...

I'm not one of those who claims that Google is evil or anything; I just like pointing out the big "Well, DUH" moments...

That is all.
