TREASURE!
Actually, I knew this was coming. ZerCool of Panem et Circenses... et Plumbum had graciously offered to send some .38 Special my way for testing - this is one of his favorite loads for a .38 Special and a solid contender for my first attempt at reloading. I've been saving .38 Special and .357 Magnum brass for a long time now, and probably have close to a thousand pieces ready for when (not if) I start reloading on my own.
Thanks, ZerCool, for the most excellent surprise!
That is all.

Strange markings. Unknown address. Well-wrapped. Greasy spots on the outside.
And he opens it. Some people never learn...
You took pictures, yay! - because I didn't, and also neglected to take a picture of the subtle hidden message. (Hope you caught it!)
For readers curious, the load is nominally 3.5gr of IMR Trail Boss, Winchester Small Pistol Primer, and 158gr LSWC. The load also works just as well with LRN bullets. The charges I spot-checked in the batch (of 350) ranged from 3.5 to 3.7gr, all well within safe published limits (4.2gr is published max at 804fps). (As with all reloading data, no guarantees are made and use at your own risk in firearms designed for the cartridge being used.)
For those who haven't used TrailBoss at all, it's a VERY low-density powder, specifically designed for Cowboy Action and lower-velocity lead loads. A standard 1-lb IMR jar only holds 9oz. Over- or double-charging would be nearly impossible as it would overflow the case. Nice clean burn with very little powder residue. Highly recommended for target-level revolver loads!
Jay: I'm looking to trade brass so if this is something you would consider let me know. I keep everything I find at the range, so I have an assortment of pieces. I'm looking for .40 S&W and/or .223 (which I doubt you are willing to part with, but it's out there).
I'll be making a page on my blog with a table of what I have and what I'd trade for. I'm looking at a ratio based on the weight of the brass. lb for lb as it were. I'm open to other ideas but that's about as fair as I can think.

Jay, welcome to the money pit that is reloading. Get your equipment and get started!
It's very easy to make pistol reloads that shoot better than factory ammo.
Is what I have started with. My .38 Special. It has a nice calming effect as I load hundreds of rounds and then go make them go BANG!! Did have a glitch recently. Was listening to my son and missed the fact that my hopper ran out of powder....Now I need a bullet puller....Oh well at least I caught! Thinking it could have had a bad result at the range..
But I enjoy it.
Next is to find some bullets and bleeping rifle primers and start reloading my .32 Wnchester Special!! Has much empty brass for that!
