NRA Convention Update

Well, we're less than two months away from the 2010 NRA Annual Meeting. I wanted to pass along a most generous offer from a fellow blogger regarding lodging for the meeting, something that is becoming more and more of a premium as space fills up in Charlotte, NC hotels.

Bob over at The Drawn Cutlass works in a hotel in the greater Charlotte area. He contacted me with a great deal:
My manager got back with me this afternoon, said that they'd be willing to offer a rate of $75.00 plus tax (15% here in Charlotte) per night for the convention. You can possibly find lower rates in the Charlotte area, but here as everywhere, low rates works out to marginal/bad neighborhoods and high crime areas. This area (Pineville, NC) is in a low-crime area; standard rates in this area average at $99-110. per night. I'll provide a link to the hotel's web page, but basically it is an all-suites hotel, suites meaning extended-sized rooms with a pull-out couch/comfy chair near the window; all rooms are non-smoking, with free wi-fi and free full cooked buffet breakfast (not just continental) every morning.

Here's the website:

http://www.comfortsuites.com/hotel-pineville-north_carolina-NC831

To get the $75 dollar rate you'll need to call the hotel directly at our toll-free line, which is (877)305-2844. Ask for the NRA convention rate (or hell, Bob's rate) of $75.

As you might imagine, I can recommend good restaurants here in the Charlotte area, and if you'd like to get everyone together for a blogger's dinner or get-together, I can think of some great places offhand that would suit everyone down to the ground.

Bob, that's a helluva great deal, and a hearty thanks for going the extra mile for us weirdo gunbloggers. Once I get approval for the vacation time and work out the travel arrangements (scuttlebutt over in the Gunblogger Conspiracy IRC chat is that Marko is going to pick up Weer'd Beard and I for a gnarly dude road trip in the MunchkinMobile. Oh, you'll want to be a fly on a wall of that minivan!

Anyways, if anyone's interested in the hotel, I'm planning on grabbing a room. It's a ways from the convention center - I think 13-14 miles according to Google maps - but really, once you're out of walking distance (and the going rate there's at least double Bob's hotel rate), does it matter the difference between 5 and 14 miles?

And if we want to take up Bob's offer and find a restaurant (or brew pub...) for a get-together, all the better!

That is all.

actually, depending on the way you're going, I'm most likely only a mile or less out of the way..... if you're serious I just may take ya up on it.

My understanding is that Bitter isn't organizing anything this year.

Has anyone spoken to Ashley or anyone else over at NRA about getting gun bloggers media creds this year?

Let me know how you want to divvy up the rooms and sleeping arrangements.

Can't wait.

Just watch where you go, there are parts of charlotte the cops won't go into in less than groups of 4.

For Charlotte North Carolina hotels, that is a great rate. Thanks for the tip!
