Very Cool Stuff...

Received this in e-mail, and it's so cool it has to be shared:

Ride in a U-2 Spy Plane

Here's the description from the e-mail:
Fasten your seat belt for a fantastic ride.

This video is a once in a lifetime experience of a British civilian getting a flight at over 70,000 ft. in a U-2 spy plane. Please note at the take-off the assist wheels on the outer edges of the wings which drop off upon take-off. The wings are so long that they need temporary support until lift-off. What is not shown is at the landing the plane actually slows to a small enough speed that two guys are actually able to grab the wing tips and put those assist wheels back on.

The civilian getting the ride is the host of the car show Top Gear on BBC shown through Europe at 9:00 pm Sunday night in Belgium . The views are spectacular as the U-2 flies at altitudes which constitute "Space."
Very cool, and well worth a look.

That is all.

Jay,

FWIW, the U-2 was not the only long-winged plane to use outrigger wheels near the tips -- the BUFF, uh I mean B-52 has 'em too.

Top Gear might be my favorite show on TV right now. Last week, that guy had an accident in Romania in a Lamborghini. The other guys helped him by leaving.

Top Gear is a must-watch for gearheads no matter where they live, and the co-host Jeremy Clarkson's politics are pretty good as well.

And on top of all that, it's one of the funniest shows on telly and is one of the few shows that I will set aside time for each week rather than catch up with it later on TiVo.

If I ever got cable, Top Gear would be the reason. As it is, I get my fix off YouTube.

I discovered Top Gear while recuperating from my wreck in '08. I'm home now, & so can't watch it. I'd heard that Captain Slow got a ride in a U-2, but haven't seen it.

The Top Gear shown on BBC America is differnt from the one they see in the UK and EU. The episodes have beeen re-edited to fit into a hour plus they are about 6 months behind the orginal broadcast date.

But yes....must see TV for any gear head.
