A man was killed Wednesday night when his bicycle collided with an MBTA bus.Don't play chicken with municipal buses. Seriously. It's a good way to remove one's self from the gene pool post haste, and it messes up everyone's commute. You might be reducing your carbon footprint by taking your bicycle, and that's good; however if you mess with a 10 ton diesel bus you will wind up greatly increasing your sidewalk footprint as you get smeared all over it.
The victim's name has not been released, but an MBTA spokesperson says witnesses report that the bicyclist tried to pass the bus on the left, lost control, and fell under the bus.
See the difference there? Notice that one is significantly larger than the other? By like, multiple tons. Don't play chicken with one if you're on a 30 pound bicycle. That may be detrimental to things like remaining in three dimensions...
Sometimes stupid hurts, and sometimes it even kills...
That is all.

And here I was just thinking I needed something to put a smile on my face. One fewer retarded two-wheel rejects from Tron could make even election day look a little better.
WV: Undere. I may be giggling all day now.
I had a feeling *someone* would appreciate this story...
The top gear guys did that a while back, here's a best of thing, the full segment is probably out there:
The Stig, Hammond,May and Clarkson Cross-London Race
Hammond curses at the busses the whole way as he rides his bike.
Dude, it's the same as when they figure the T is going to stop on a dime whenever they decide to step out in front of it.
They just don't that acknowledge the big green thingy with the lights, bells, and horn can do them serious bodily harm.
This was literally directly outside of my apartment.
"This was literally directly outside of my apartment."
Pics or GTFO.
www.myfoxboston.com , that was the picture that I took. I don't know what GTFO, but I can tell you what I thought about the accident. On huntington ave. the train tracks have holes along side of them, wide enough to swallow a bike tire. Well the front wheel got caught, and the rider must have tried to turn quickly because the wheel was going in one direction and the handlebars were 90 degrees the other direction. The bicyclist was thrown off, and I guess right under the bus he was trying to pass on the left.
"Being thrown under the bus." It's more than just a slogan. It's almost always fatal and never pretty.
I ride a bike, sometimes in the city. You have to pay attention every second. I'm always much more aware of my mortality when I'm on a bike.
I have actually seen a college kid HIT a bus with her bike, and just manage to roll out of the way before the bus Rachel Corried her.
Rear wheels totaled her bike.
