Heh.
Little more on the journey so far, now that I have an actual connection and can use the Eee and the hotel internet* rather than a grabbed connection on the iTouch for three minutes. We made it all the way to Savannah, GA last night, traveling a little over 1,000 miles in a little over 20 hours (yep, we averaged about 50 MPH with stops and such, just like everyone else). We've got about five more hours ahead of us to get to Orlando, about 300 miles, which we could theoretically do in one jump (but will most likely be a couple of stops).
What's impressed me most about this entire trip is how well my kids have behaved. We left our house at like 9:30 Thursday night, and drove through the night in shifts to avoid the traffic through Hartford/NYC/DC, then spent the day yesterday getting to where we are right now. They stayed up late Thursday, watching movies on the DVD player and playing their DSs (our concession to the trip), but didn't fight at all. It was nothing short of amazing, and I am proud of both of them.
Now, let's see how long that lasts...
That is all.
*Funny story on that. We're in a touristy area outside of Savannah, GA right now, having stopped for the night before the last leg of our journey. There's a good half-dozen hotels, a bunch of restaurants, and a bunch of gas stations clustered in a half-mile or so radius. We happened to pick the Day's Inn based on, well, it being less than $50 a night with breakfast and free wi-fi included. I get to the room, start to connect, and it's a password-based thing (they give you the password; it makes a lot of sense, actually).
And then I connected without a password because one of the other hotels has unsecured wi-fi...

Just got back from Savannah a couple of weeks ago. Great touristy city once the kids are a little older. Thanks for coming down to Florida and supporting the economy down here. Too bad you aren't coming over to the beaches in Tampa Bay as I'd love to meet you some day. Well maybe next time I go up to see the family in New England. Drive safe and spend plenty of cash as our budget needs all the help it can get. Remember to take advantage of your 2nd amendment rights except of course at DWorld where Mickey and Goofy are there to protect you instead.
Crazy 31337 ninja h4X0R skillz, u haz dem.

Jay,
Got your call. Left you a message on your voice-mail a.s.a.p.
Hope you & your family have the time of your lives!!!!
1. If that Savannah exit is the one with the Hooters restaurant next to the Harley dealership, that's one of my regular stops on the way to Augusta and Points North...
2. If there is a chance for an shindig in O-Town or thereabouts, be sure to drop a line- I can be there in 2 or so hours...
If there's rum or boolits, I'm in.

caveman,
Sure thing - you make it up to NE, give me a holler, I'll see what I can do...
Borepatch,
Heh. My elite skillz of looking at a list and touching one...
RW,
Sorry I missed your callback; we were in Shoney's watching the display of "humanity"... By the time I saw the message it was too late to call, and the next morning was so crazy getting going...
TBG,
I don't think there will be an O-town meeting this time. Robb and I juuuust missed each other at the land of the Mouse yesterday, and the rest of my week is insanely busy.
Maybe next time I come down to FLA I'll schedule one empty day of down time to fling some lead with my FL peeps...
That would be 204 and 95 where you stopped. I ran a hellacious crash there back when I was a Paramedic with Medstar in Savannah. Transported 5 with total Immobilization and that didn't include the two that GSP took in the back of the cruiser.
