Old Bathrooms On Common Could Become Eateries
Both the Pink Palace in Boston Common and the Duck House in the Back Bay Fens have been abandoned for decades.
On Tuesday, the Boston Parks andRecreation Commission will ask lawmakers to turn these former public toilets into some sort of diner.
"We think this building has a lot of potential for vending of some sort," said Parks and Recreation Commissioner Toni Pollack. "It's not a big building so we think it will be more of a vending site not a restaurant location."
The two buildings in question are both just under 700 square feet - not a terrific amount of space for a restaurant, but I'd wager the perfect size for a take out place. It's foolish for these buildings to sit, vacant and unused, for decades, given the prime location and general history of the buildings. It's the general opposition to the idea of eating in a bathroom that has some people shaking their heads; given that they haven't been used as loos in over a generation, I doubt this would really be an issue.
And at least if the food gives you the runs you won't have far to go...
That is all.
