Seven Years Ago Today...

I became the father of a little girl:

InfantGirl G.

She's now grown into quite the young lady:

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

And continues to grow each and every day. Yesterday she got her yellow belt in Kempo Karate - I steadfastly maintain that she's not going to break hearts - she's going to break legs. And now she's getting trained to do it! She's a Brownie, plays baseball, and is excited about finishing first grade so she can get ready to be a big girl second grader.

Becoming a father is a daunting task. You walk a tightrope act between wanting to give your children all the freedom you never had and feeling like you need to hold onto them tighter than your own parents ever dreamed of. You're scared to death that they're going to fall, get hurt, fail, be disappointed, etc.; yet you know deep down that one truly doesn't grow into a full person without running into life's disappointments. The best you can do is help them back up when they fall; support them when they fail; and let them live their own lives.

Happy birthday BabyGirl G.!!!

That is all.

Happy Birthday BabyG, except you're not a baby anymore :-) Grow up to be proud, strong and independent, just like your daddy!

Happiest of birthdays, and many more.

And Jay, saw a t-shirt at Reagan-National yesterday and thought you might appreciate it:
