Okay, back from our Fourth of July camping excursion. We're trying to pack TheBoy up for Cub Scout So-Kee-Tay camp and realizing that not only is it a lot of work getting a young man ready for overnight camp, but the resulting drama makes one happy to see the young lad off... We're seeing some misplaced nerves as he lashes out over the smallest things, a thin layer of bravado masking his fear of being away from home at camp for the first time. The good part is that the way he's behaving, we're happy to see him off...
More blog later, much unpacking now.
That is all.

The family and I felt the same way about my middle brother when he was growing up. Before baseball games, especially playoffs, he'd turn into a raving, irritating butthole of an individual. Temper tantrums, rants, insults, the works.
Actually, he was that way yesterday and early this morning because he has junior-college tryouts today. He almost didn't survive the night because Mom was ready to choke him out of existence.
He's a great guy other than when he's freaking out over baseball.
Enjoy it. As he gets more comfortable camping, and being away from home, you will have a hard time stopping him.
My mother used to complain that I only came home long enough to wash clothes, refill the food supply and then I was off to the woods again.
She was wrong of course, I was a teenage kid, I didn't care if my clothes were clean or not. But coming home for food was easier than foraging for it myself.
My thirteen year old gets irritated now when I start quizzing him about what he has packed for camp outs. His usual response is rolling eyes and an exasperated "Dad, I've done this before you know." It doesn't stop me from asking however. Especially when they are headed out for a camp with conditions that he may not be familiar with - cold, desert, beach, etc.
