My gun club renews the memberships on July 1st every year. They approve all the renewals en masse at the Members meeting the first Monday of the month, which was sparsely attended owing to the July 4th holiday the day before and attendant vacations and day trips and such. So I'm still waiting for my 2010 - 2011 Membership badge, and as such, didn't get to the range this past weekend. I haven't been in a few weeks and was really hoping/looking forward to hitting the range for some much needed recoil therapy.
It's been even worse in that I have recently acquired some 700 rounds of .45 ACP, managing to hit the local Wal-Mart at precisely the right time and scoring big on the WWB packs. Ever since my 1911 primer last week I've been itching to put one (or more) of JMB's designs (PBUH) through it's paces, and was thinking about bringing the Gold Cup, the Hi-Power, and the Winchester 1906 .22LR pump-action rifle to the pistol range for the next trip, a veritable cornucopia of John Moses Browning goodness. Throw in the S&W model 17 for additional rimfire goodness and that's one happy time at the range...
*sigh* Well, the membership card should come this week, right?
That is all.

good luck with that ... my membership expired 30-June and i'm still waiting (along with the rest of the club) for invoices so we can pay ... doesn't stop me shooting though!
hope you get the card and to the range soon.
Is this specific to your club that you can't shoot there even if they're the ones who are behind in issuing the membership badges, or is it a MA anti-gun law that you can't shoot at a range without having proof of membership at that range?
Just curious.
That's pretty stupid if you can't shoot because they're behind on paperwork. Who would've stopped you if you went anyway?
You know you have a ton of friends with range memberships who can hook you up, right?
Julie,
I'm hoping so. I think if I don't have my badge by the end of the week I'll head over and try to shoot anyways.
I just called my back and the check was cashed, so I can at least rule out my renewal getting lost in the mail...
Jake,
The club has a locked gate, and the combination to get in is on the back of your membership badge. I don't want to drive over to find they've changed the combination!
Even in MA you can shoot at a range where you are not a member - I've shot at Harvard Sportsmen's Club more times than my own club AAMOF... :)
Zeeke42,
See above comment - I'm sure if I could get in I could shoot with no problems. I just don't want to trek all the way over there (all 4 miles) to find myself locked out).
Thanks for the offer BTW.
Hey, are you a member at Harvard by any chance? I might have need of someone to host an "after" shoot...
I'm not a member at Harvard, but it's in my plans to join. I need to be a member by October, because I'm scheduled to be the match director for the October IDPA match.
Like you, I shoot at Harvard nearly as often as my own club (Westford). I was shooting there yesterday, in fact. (USPSA match)
Ya just need to pack up and move down here to the free state of KY, I can open the sliding door and shoot whatever I want into the backstop on the other side of my pond. (as long as the horses or cattle aren't in the way)
its pretty nice to have friends over, setup targets and just do whatever whenever.... and yes, Tannerite is FUN at dusk, and 308's have very pretty muzzle blasts...
my Saiga is gorgeous after dark with the polychoke throwin fire out to the side... looks like a large version of the Thompson....
