So Close!

We're one Dead Goblin away from the big 5-0! FarmDad gave me this link last night in Gunblogger Conspiracy chat:

Forestville man fatally shoots home invader
A maintenance man at a Forestville apartment complex shot and killed a home invader Monday morning after the intruder forced the man into his apartment and fired a gun at him, police and law enforcement sources said.

The maintenance man was able to retrieve his own gun inside his apartment and return fire, fatally wounding the intruder, law enforcement sources said. Police said that the maintenance man had not been charged criminally and that the shooting in the 4400 block of Rena Road appeared to be self-defense.

Point a gun at me and make me go back into my domicile? Oh please, Brer Fox, don't throw me into that briar patch! One can only assume that the goblin thought he was safe, being in gun-unfriendly MD and all, all close to DC and such. There's an interesting trend we're seeing - there's this story, there's the double shooting I posted yesterday, there's another story floatint around about a 15 year old kid who shot an intruder with his police officer father's patrol rifle... In all of these cases, the goblin(s) was armed as well, and in several cases the goblin even fires first.

But the armed citizen triumphs each time. There's got to be a reason for that, and I chalk it up to mindset. Each of us, when we make the conscious decision to own a firearm for self defense, knows that we might someday have to use that firearm. Using that firearm may very well cost someone their life - and we've made the decision already that it won't be us on the losing end, not if we can help it. The average goblin doesn't think much of the firearm beyond "I point it at them, they give me their wallets". When the rubber hits the road, they'll fire blindly or freeze up.

We find the front sight and press...

Dead Goblin Count: 49

That is all.

I also think its because we learn to shoot using sights at the range. The goblins learn to shoot by watching movies and TV.

Nope, we're one over, by way of InstaPundit.

In other news, this gentleman did not increase the Dead Goblin count, but he did increase the prison population by one.

As a resident of MD, I think you missed the most telling quote from the story. The Prince George's County State's Attorney said:

"Generally speaking, people do have a right to defend themselves and others in their homes, including deadly force in some circumstances."

Trust me, that's a shift in attitude here in MD.
