Happy Hump Day!

Here's a story to put a smile on your face and a spring in your step on this hump day, courtesy of reader Stretch:

Intruders gunned down in 2 Alexandria-area home invasions, police report
Two Alexandria-area men fended off would-be burglars Monday morning with gunfire, killing one and putting two more in the hospital in two unrelated cases, police report.
Ah. Gotta love an addition to the Dead Goblin Count first thing in the morning. Here are the details:
Armed men entered a home around 4:25 a.m. in the 4900 block of Willow Glen Street in Alexandria, city police officials said. Resident Roy Harris Jr., his wife and two young children awoke during the break-in.While his wife and children hid, Harris grabbed a gun and began firing at the intruders, police said. Harris shot and killed Darwin Johnson, 24, of the 2700 block of Ninth St., Alexandria, authorities said.
1. How ironic is it that the deceased's name is Darwin?
2. This is every father's worst nightmare come true, and Mr. Harris acquitted himself perfectly. He had multiple armed assailants break into his home while he and his family slept - that right there is one of my most virulent nightmares. It sounds like they had a plan in place for an intrusion, something we've done at Casa G. as well - everybody hunkers down in their rooms, with Mrs. G. calling 911 on the cell phone and me getting the Mossberg...

Here's the best part of the whole article:
No charges have been filed against Harris or Baggett.
[Pause to let cheers fill the room]

Dead Goblin Count: 55

That is all.

One less DG out of the gene pool. That's the kind of story that puts a smile on the day.

I hate to stereotype, but MAN you need to be a STUPID robber to break into a single-wide in a rural area.

The most valuable thing in the place is likely gonna be the gun that the owner will kill you with!

Did you notice the pic of Mr. Baggett? If he had to engage in hand-to-hand with a young 20-something it could have gotten very ugly. Instead of his fists, he was able to use a superior tool to repel invaders from his home with no personal injury.

Would that every law-abiding citizen in the US had that "luxury"

Congrats to Both Gentleman! But you notice that both shootings took place in Va., not across the Potomac in D.C. or nearby Maryland. If the shootings had occurred in either of those two places, how much you want to bet the homeowners would still be locked up on Gun Law Violations while the burglars would be free on bail? Hint to Federal people who live and work in/around the Beltway: Move to Va. and Commute.
