Sign of the Times...

Poll surprise of the day: Barney Frank in trouble?
The Sean Bielat campaign has declared themselves within reach of unseating Barney Frank in Massachusetts’ 4th CD, one of the presumed safest districts for Democrats in the nation. The poll, conducted for the campaign by OnMessage, shows Frank falling below the 50% mark despite the D+14 composition of his constituency. Bielat comes within nine points, even though the poll shows that he still badly trails in name recognition.
Folks, if Barney Frank is A) below 50% and B) less than 10 points from an unknown Republican contender, I'm starting to think that my good friend Borepatch might just be right about the chances of the Stupid Party come November. This one may be too big for them to screw up, although with the recent idiocy of them stonewalling the end of Don't Ask, Don't Tell they sure are trying hard to lose this. Don't get me wrong - I fully expect the Republicans to do something monumentally stupid at the last minute and blow what should be a complete and utter landslide.

But for the first time, I have hope. If Frank is struggling - and let's face it, in MA a long-seated Democrat with only a single digit lead is struggling - then the voter dissatisfaction with incumbents is real, significant, and has the potential to really shake things up in a month and a half. And that is a good thing. As my aforementioned friend and blogson is wont to say, "Vote 'em out". Vote 'em all out. Democrat, Republican, if they've got the word "incumbent" next to their name, vote for the other person on the ballot. If there's no one else on the ballot, write your own name in. Treat the word "incumbent" as though it says "beats kittens to death with crack-addicted orphans for fun".

I don't know what I'll do if Barney Frank loses to a Republican, but it will have to be something big - I'm thinking full-on front lawn happy dance...

That is all.

Unseating Barney Frank!!! This could be the holy grail of this year's election. I felt the earth move under my feet when I read that he was under 50%
I eagerly await the howls of hoooomophobia and wailings of raaaacist. (ya know they gotta wail about racist conservatives no matter why or what.)
snicker snicker giggle.

They didn't. Stonewall it, that is. There is an ongoing process to determine what the results of "ending DADT" might be on the morale and efficiency of the armed forces. The Dumacrats were trying to short-circuit that process. The Republicans want to let the process finish so that we can figure out the best solution, not just plunge ahead willy-nilly regardless of the consequences.

Even if he doesn't lose (this time) Barney is in a real campaign for a change. He's going to have to spend some of that war chest he's been sitting on and do some real campaigning as well.

A serious challenge to Frank is a start, something that with luck can be followed up on in two years.

Personally, I'd love for you to move to his district and run against him next time.

The JayG - Barney Frank debate would be worth watching, it might even make Pay Per View.

JayG vs Barney? Hell, _I_ might even pay to see that, and I can't even afford cable.

Pardon me, though, if I hope it becomes a moot point because the aging commie twerp goes down _this_ year and isn't even around in 2012.

....and sometime within the next 2 weeks Bwanney may even start to make some campaign appearances which will.....

Demonstrate that he has all the campign skills of "Marsha" Coakly.

Some people will suddenly say "Wait....He's my Congressman???"

The "Anybody but Barney" vote will only grow.

.....and then there's the fact that Sean Bielat is actually a great canidate fully capable of winning without Barney's "Help".

Only good thing I've seen Barney Frank do is support repealing the Internet Gambling Act.

Barney is a "would you please stop being on my side" sort, in my book.

YAY! He was the first out gay congress critter. If, beyond that signal achievement, he was actually worth a damn I'd not be so harsh...

But gay, straight, or goat-buggerer...he is at best ill-advised in his positions, and imho, an arrogant elitist with delusions of grandeur that poses an active threat to the republic so long as he holds elected office.

Gents & Ladies of MA of whichever persuasion, wouldst thou hurry to a polling station and relieve us of this plague?
