Governor Clueless Rides Again!

Oh man. Someone please keep "Coupe" Deval away from the cameras.

Cahill Accepts Public Campaign Funds
BOSTON (WBZ) ―Tim Cahill is getting ready to launch a major TV ad blitz this week, following a boost from hundreds of thousands of dollars in public funds.

Tim Cahill is expected to receive up to $750,000 in public money from the state campaign fund tomorrow.
Cahill qualified for the money; his Green party opponent did not, and the two major players have opted out of public financing - power to all of them. There's certainly nothing wrong with taking the money - as Cahill rightly points out, this is money collected specifically and voluntarily for the purpose of financing political campaigns. It's funny, though, to see how the various candidates responded to this news.

Watch the video in the linked article. Baker has a canned response about deficits, pretty standard response - good sound bite about raising money "the old fashioned way, a dollar at a time" (a direct slap at the public financing, where people donate $1 each on their state tax form). Patrick's response to why he didn't take public financing?
"I don't know, ask the campaign manager".
Gov, ya gotta do more than phone it in. You can't tell me that his handlers couldn't have whipped up a quick, two-line response even he could remember, something along the lines of saving the state money (although that probably wouldn't have worked coming from the lips of "Cadillac" Deval). Instead, he looks like an unprepared boob, pushing off what is a perfectly straightforward question onto a subordinate while his main opponent uses it for a soundbite.

Time to start arranging the deck chairs on the SS Patritanic...

That is all.
