Outta The Park

Newbius nails what I love about the gunnie community.

Money quote:

This past weekend, I met some amazing people. I reunited with some friends, put faces to the names of people that I have been speaking to daily for months, and got introduced to friends of friends. The only common bond between us is our love of firearms. We are all from different backgrounds, and lifestyles, and cultures. Yet, we are all bound through the love of this thing to also be brothers and sisters of a very tight family.

Amen, brother Newbius.

I drove some 1,300 miles roundtrip to be a part of this; perhaps a little on the extreme side but not out of the ordinary - I know that a certain Phabulous person had a birthday party over the same weekend that drew folks from just as far away; the "Blogorado" shindig brings in folks from around the country; ditto Gunblogger Rendezvous. Heck, even our little Northeast Bloggershoot draws in folks from all over the Northeast US.

There's just something about that fellowship of the gun that's hard to explain - how so many people with such diverse backgrounds can gather as friends out of this common interest. I'd like to think the gun as a symbol of freedom plays a roll here - that everyone that attends these gatherings has, in addition to a deep and abiding love for that which goes bang, a deep respect for the liberty that we enjoy and the guardianship thereof.

That and we like shootin' stuff. There's that too.

That is all.

Amen to all of that, Jay - I hope to get some gunny travel time in soon, too!

I would also add that many of us go to the NRA Convention for the comraderie. Looking at shiny shooty things is cool, but it's the people that make being a gunnie great.

I'm disappointed I missed out on this.

Glad it was a good time all around. With the amount of friendship and sense of purpose, I think you should change the name from blogger-meet to "Fellowship of the 10 ring".

I would add "love of freedom" as another uniting bond. At least, that's the case in my experience.
