So, I called up Sirius to cancel my subscription. You can't cancel online; it has to be over the phone. I call into the toll-free number they provide on their mailings, and am told that it will be an eight (8) minute wait.
After thirty (30) minutes the call appears to be disconnected. No sound, no more hold music, nothing. I'm waiting for the dial tone when finally cheerful customer service person comes on the line. We run through the "how can I help you today" routine, and she still tries to sell me more service.
Um, no - you just made me wait on the phone for a half an hour (22 minutes longer than I was told) to cancel my subscription. You're not about to get me to change my mind by offering me a "deal" that's only saving me $20 over the course of the year.
I'm through paying for radio, thanks...
That is all.

Canceled some credit cards. Same thing. Long hold times and when they realize they can't sell you keeping it, you have to be transferred to a 'cancellation specialist' whose sole redeeming quality is to 'accidentally' disconnect the call.
Be prepared for calls at least once a week trying to sell you on the $20 for x months deals. I went online and put in a fake phone number for my account so they would stop. I should have just put in their own 800 number.
Pandora Radio. 40 hours a month free. Absolutely the best thing in radio. No more annoying DJs trying to pretend that they are funny.
I have some satellite TV thing. A bunch of channels. I watch very little TV and just the news. It comes with 50 or 100 music channels.
I find only one music channel worth listening to. And for no more than a couple hours before it repeats the same stuff.
Not worth any money.
I would hate to have to give up my sirius radio. Being in an ultra liberal radio market, terrestrial radio is barely worth what you pay for it.
I cancelled my XM service (before they combined) when the "commercial free" music channels started carrying more and more ... commercials.
Same situation you had: long hold time, then tell them six different times that, no, I really didn't want their new special package if only I'll stay, and yes, I really do want to cancel, and I'm canceling because you retards started making me pay to listen to ads, just like cable TV - which, by the by, I don't have either.
If you were paying with some form of automatic deduction; be prepared to do this again next billing cycle.
I had to call them each and every month to cancel and it wasn't until my card number got changed by the bank did they finally let it go. Five months of calling; three of them with them unable to collect and they STILL wanted to upsell me and then wanted a cancellation fee.
I didn't pay it and they've not sent a bill, so...
Played that game before, I feel your pain.
Always wonder why the Feds make TV and Radio Stations Broadcast for Free, yet I need some middleman to watch and/or listen to it? Then if you're a New Customer, you can pay half of what I'm paying as long-term subscriber? Frack this system. I'm getting a Kindle, loading it up, and the Media Thieves can go to Hell.
I switched my Sirius receiver to a lifetime subscription after the first year. It paid for itself after the first three years. I still miss the punk channel that became a casualty to the XM merger, and I am not happy with Glenn Beck taking over Mike Church's time slot, but nothing beats having access to the stations you want in any city, out in the desert, or up in the mountains.
Next time tell any one of them you are canceling because you are leaving the country, not sure when you'll be back, etc., etc, YMMV, but it worked for me - No offer of stay and upgrade, or get 50 newer channels for ONLY $12-$50 more than you were paying. They'll tell you something like sorry to hear your leaving, and disconnect the account right away.
Pandora rocks. You can even stream it while driving if your radio/phone/data plan supports it!
Hey Bubblehead Les...
Before you get that Kindle you might want to look at the competition.
Kindle ebooks download in a proprietary format and you don't actually buy their ebook. You have a conditional lease in perpetuity.
Look at a Nook (if you want a touch screen and color) or Kobo (inexpensive, bare bones).
I just got a Kobo and am loving it.

Sorry to hear that, dude. I worked out a deal wherein I pay per month because that works out better for me. I know there are those who get disgruntled with Sirius, but I still really like it. San Antonio radio by and large sucks.
