Teh Stoopid... It Burns!

PISSED is trying to kill me. There's simply no other explanation. If you doubt that, take a look at the story he sent me over the weekend:

State’s thugs loading up on banned guns

Banned machine guns are turning up in the hands of gangbangers and drug dealers from Holyoke to Cape Cod at a rapid clip that is alarming Bay State cops and has them scrambling to stem a “mini arms race” they blame on lax gun laws in other states.

“We have a ban, but the other states around us don’t,” said state police Maj. Michael Crisp, head of the department’s detective division. “They bring them here and exchange them for drugs and money.”

1. If there is an actual machine gun - meaning any select- or fully automatic fire weapon - in any of these stories, I will donate $100 to the Brady's.

2. If the guns are banned, what the hell is making them more illegal going to do?

3. Here are some of the guns in question:

Okay. I see two Ruger .22 pistols, some generic revolvers, and a Colt Detective Special. I see a couple of Hi-Points, a 1911, and another nondescript semi-auto pistol. There's what looks to be an AB-10, the post Assault Weapons Ban Tec-9 and what might be a Kel-Tec SUB2000 rifle at the top. On the sides are a single shot NEF 12 gauge and some hacked-to-death 20 gauge side-by-side.

None of these weapons are assault weapons.

The AB-10 was specifically manufactured in the wake of the Federal Ban - the "AB" refers to "After Ban". The Kel-Tec SUB2000 does not have the requisite flash hider, bayonet lug, or collapsible stock that would designate it as an assault weapon. The AWB covered rifles, not handguns (for the most part, there are very limited exceptions such as the aforementioned TEC-9). Revolvers and break-open shotguns were never mentioned.

IOW, this entire article is a steaming pile of journalistic fertilizer. There are instances listed where criminals used rifles, yes - but those are available in MA just as readily as in NH or anywhere else. The presence - or absence - of the flash hider/bayonet lug/etc. that would make the rifle an "assault weapon" has no bearing. Either the reporter is completely ignorant of firearms (a distinct possibility, no offense intended), or he's shilling for the VPC/Brady bunch.

Ignorance can be cured; malevolence not so much...

That is all.

I don't see a select-fire in that mix either.
Obviously their "ban" on "machine-guns", is working.
So what's his beef?
The stupid is strong in that guy.

Skul

I bet you to that guy, you are a Gang Banger too. Or maybe one of those southern red necked terroristic threepers.

But can't you see? Right behind the sawed off double barrel shot gun is the muzzle end of an airsoft rifle! These are known to the AFT to be easily convertible to fire a hailstorm of boolits!!

Quickly! Throw all those weapons in the smelter! Those evil, evil guns...

The sawed-off is at least a legitimate NFA violation.

So that's at least in the same section of the US Code as machineguns, and banned-without-registration at the same time...

Geez.... honest reporting would help... I see a TOTAL of ONE NFA violation, and that is the sawed off 20ga.

We get them with knifes in the UK all the time. They always a bizarre collection, often with some very nice collectables, but I nearly always look at them thinking what the....

Would love for someone to catalogue what is actual used in violence, somehow I do not think they going to find a lot of expensive or custom knifes in that list.

Almost complete gun ban here, and yet there have been over three shootings five minutes down the road. Anyone would think criminals were willing to break the law to get guns?

Unfortunately, it's not only journalists that are ignorant about guns. I've been trying to educate some of my co-workers about what a machine gun is and isn't. Most get it, but some cannot grasp the distinction. And one of the latter is a War of Northern Aggression re-enactor. He knows squat about guns, and I've nearly given up on him, as he doesn't seem to be able to process information very well.

I thought the clip was the thing that held the bullets? Now I am confused!

None of those firearms meet the ATF description of a machine gun. If any of them are fully automatic, it's by accident, not design.

Once again politically driven police officials are lying to the public about the type of weapons criminals use.

How can they be a machine gun if they don't have the shoulder thing that goes up?
