Covering My A- Bases...

Just so I've got an easy reference...

PA Firearm Reciprocity Agreements

Note: It has come to the attention of the Office of Attorney General that there has been confusion over the applicability of Pennsylvania's reciprocal privileges with regard to the residency status of an individual who has been issued a valid license/permit. It is the position of the Office of Attorney General that recognition within Pennsylvania is based on the issuance to an individual of a valid license/permit by the reciprocal contracting state, and not on the license/permit holder's place of residence.
(emphasis mine)

Further down the page we find this:

Under Pennsylvania law, there are six categories of firearms reciprocity status.

Category 1: States that have entered into written reciprocity agreements with Pennsylvania. (Title 18 Pa.C.S.A. § 6109(k))

The following states have entered into formal written reciprocity agreements with Pennsylvania under section 6109(k) of the Uniform Firearms Act. These agreements provide for reciprocal recognition of valid licenses/permits issued by both states. Recognition in Pennsylvania is based on the individual's issuance of a valid license/permit by the reciprocal contracting state, and not on the license/permit holder's place of residence.

A list of these states and links to their firearms laws is provided below, along with the text of the agreements:

Okay then. Guess that clears up the permit part of the test... Of course, this brings up a much thornier question, one that no Pennsylvania website can help me with:

Which gun for concealed carry in PA?

That is all...

If pulled over by the police in PA, do you have a duty to report?

I recommend the S&W M&P 45 compact (but, that is what I carry in Texas).

NJT, I don't think so, but I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV.

JayG - Don't have a carry permit myself (yet) but I'm partial to the SIG-Sauer P239.

Forget concealed. What gun for open carry?

S&W .500 magnum? :D

For sheer, I'm not to be fucked with factor. Also, guaranteed to induce PSH in hoplophobes.

Besides, it would be a good excuse to utter "That's not a gun, this is a gun." In certain situations.

Alan, you don't have a proper 1911 set up for a BBQ gun?

And you call yourself a Texan???

I am bringing one and only one gun for the weekend. And I'll being carrying OWB with a cover garment that probably isn't quite long enough to cover the bottom of the holster.

And I'm ok with that.

Damn you all to hell. I had my guns packed last night. Now I have to re-think...

I used to live in PA, and I have seen people OC, and this was on the more-liberal eastern side of the state.

I'm pretty sure there's no duty to report...buuut I could be wrong. I've only carried there out in the boonies, where I'm pretty sure if a cop pulled you over and you WEREN'T carrying, he'd smack you.

It's a little late now, but a PA Non-res permit is a piece of cake to get, though I think they are changing the regulations so that you have to apply in person, now :/ Guess I'll have to deal with that in a few years when mine expires.

What gun for Open Carry? One that doesn't interfere with one's consumption of Adult Beverages, because Firearms and Alcohol can be Legally Married in Pennsylvania!

Somebody throw a bucket over T-Bolt and wake him up from his Fainting Spell.

Got a couple of holster options for each.

Stay out of Philly and just OC. The law is, any valid permit from any state is good for OC in a car.

Just be prepared to talk guns with any cops you meet.

Model 13 in your spiffy boutique OWB holster.

Granted, I'm in a 357 magnum happy-place right now.

Heh....

Magnum Research DEagle 1911, 5"

In an eye-candy holster (Lord knows I got enough of them...) OC, because I can't OC in my home state of NY...

And my PA Non-Res didn't come in the mail in time. Unless it shows up tomorrow morning, I can only OC...
