Gunnie Blues...

Circumstances have prevented me from getting to the range the past couple of weekends, and it doesn't look like I'm going to get out until sometime in May. Between Scout commitments, family vacation, and the NRA convention, my weekends are jam-packed straight through to the middle of May, with little time to even think about getting out, let alone pack up for a trip to the range.

Not only that, but there are reviews waiting - I still haven't shot my Savage yet, and I've had that for well over a month. Now, granted, when I first got it there were several feet of snow on the ground at the rifle range, but that's all gone now and that excuse is no more. I need to sight in one of the two scopes I have for the Savage, so I can squeeze in a review of the Barska spotting scope as well as the LaserLyte Boresighter I got a while back.

I've also got a couple new shooters lined up and waiting for some free time in the shootin' goodness queue, as well as requests from friends (including one who is just about to get his MA LTC and another who's about to buy his first gun) to hit the range again (now that it's not 30 below and snowing...). I'd like to investigate something like this:

(from Cabelas)

for more steel-shootin' goodness. Anyone have any experience with something like this? Part of me wants to get the .22LR version to try it out - it really looks like a lot of fun, and certainly more stable than the little steel plates I've been using (which are a lot of fun but a PITA to get in the ground when it's 20ºF...). I've been meaning to get up to Cabelas in Maine anyways... ;)

*sigh* So much gunnie goodness, so little time.

That is all.

Got a similer one to go with the air rifle the husband and I got back in January. Course I've only used it once thanks to weather and a puppy....I DID like it the time I used it if that helps.

The one I got has 4 hanging targets and one standing straight up. You shoot the 4 hanging targets, then shoot the top target to reset the whole thing. Very cool and much easier than walking back and forth or finding a string to attach. It did what it was supposed to when I used it.

I've got a small one that I love taking my .22LR to. The targets are about the size of a baseball. 4 on the bottom row, 1 on the top. It's steel, but it sits on a frame above ground and leans about 15 degrees to the rear. The targets just hang from a steel bar, but it's very easy to tell when you hit it. No ground to stake it into, nothing. Costs about $25 or so at any store that sells stuff like that.

HA! I think Ruth's target setup and the one I have are the same thing. Mine never swings up to need resetting, though. Wish it did.

Tango, sounds like they are the same, thats about what I paid for it too give or take a couple $.

I think getting the full swing depends on what the target is rated for vs what gun you're using. The one I got is rated for air rifles that shoot at least 500fps, mine shoots 1000fps so they snapped right up when I hit them.

Not for nothin' but I am working on adding steel falling targets to the local range ... Located about a mile from Cabelas :)

I may need some test shooters !
