Livin' In The Future...

Fellow biker and bloggershoot attendee stickman sends in something that has to be seen to be believed:

What the?

Okay, that's a Honda Goldwing. But what's on the back?

Odd...

Here's two of them, with a better look at the rear.

No Way!

Um. Is that what I think it is?

Yes Way!

Yes. It is a Honda Goldwing tow bike. Look out Mater!

I cracked my knuckles and worked my Google-fu just in case this was a photoshop, and found a video:

Given the tow capacity of a 'Wing is pretty significant (it is running a six cylinder after all), it makes good sense as long as the vehicle being towed is a smallish car (I can't imagine towing a U-Haul box van with it...). It can maneuver in and out of traffic faster to get to the disabled vehicle, and doesn't require as much room as a traditional set-up.

And man, the guys who ride those tow bikes have some serious skills...

That is all.

I'd like to see that Goldwing pulling your full size Dodge pickup.... I'll bet it weighs more than that VW.

Cool... now when I retire I can pull my RV with my motorcycle instead of the other way around ;)

You know they make pop-up campers that can be towed by motorcycles, right?

I was going with something a little more along the lines of this:

BIGGER

Friend of mine has one of those popup bike trailers, pretty cool. Towing the car though, that's a different story. Can't tell from the pics or vid, but I hope that thing has some sort of brakes on the dolly. I'd hate to have to slow down on a downhill curve otherwise!

These have been around for awhile - and make a lot of sense - in Europe, where both roads and typical cars are smaller. The motorcycle can zip by stuck traffic (few roads have American-width shoulders) to help move a disabled vehicle.

I read about these years ago, probably before youtube was such a big presence on the net... I don't recall where though.

That's not a camper; that's a tent on wheels.

I hope they seriously upgraded the brakes on the bike when they put the tow-dolly on it! Wonder what the tow rating is, anyway?

Hey Phil L~ American roads don't have American-width shoulders anymore. At least not in L.A. where they have all been turned into driving lanes. :)
