Well, yesterday Gunsforsale.com revealed their SUPER MONDO MEGA June giveaway - a fully tricked out KRISS Vector CRB .45 ACP carbine:
Boy, howdy, ain't that a beaut? Now, I've made no secret about my desire for a .45 ACP carbine, debating between a Beretta Storm in .45 ACP, a used Marlin Camp Carbine, or an AR-15 based carbine. The KRISS, as space-age cool as it is, really doesn't do anything for me (sorry, Robb) - it's pricey and takes magazines that - for me - are hard to find (I have a Glock 30 that can take the same magazines, and pre-ban Glock 21 mags are few and far between - and pricey).
Oh, sure, if I were to win the contest, that'd be great (I'm not entering both for the same reason Robb lists but also because I can't take possession of that KRISS without becoming a felon, thanks to Mitt Romney...). I just can't bring myself to drop that kind of money on what is essentially a range toy - and even at that, it's an expensive range toy. For what it costs to shoot .45 ACP - $0.30 a round ($15/box of 50 for .45 ACP), I'm actually better off shooting my Bushmaster for range plinking - $0.25 a round ($5 for a box of 20).
As much as it pains me to say, if I do get a pistol caliber carbine, it's going to be a 9mm. Or a lever gun in .357 Magnum - that's a distinct possibility. Oh, hell, who am I kidding, if I were to come across a Camp Carbine for the right price I'd be all over one like stink on skunk ape. While I understand the limitations of the pistol caliber carbine - even with the extra barrel length even the hottest 9mm or .45 ACP+P isn't going to have anywhere near the punch of a .223 Remington, never mind a .308 Win - it'd still be fun as hell to bust one out on the pistol range for shooting steel...
And if you happen to win that KRISS, be prepared to be swarmed every time you go to the range...
That is all.

BillyBob over at Hell on Earth (hellonearth-1.blogspot.com) has a Hi-Point 9mm carbine. Cheap, basic firearm, but fun to shoot, and accurate at 100 yards. I'll bet he and his family have put well over a thousand rounds through it.
Jay,
I'll be glad to hold it for you until such time as you become a full citizen again.
Anything to help a brother out ...
Kriss is my maiden name. It's destiny, doncha think??
Pistol cal carbines *can* get plenty powerful, but when they get there it is pretty much like shooting a .223 so why bother.
FWIW, .357sig AR, 11" barrel, 124gr bullet, ~1700FPS / ~800 ft-lbs. It shoots like a .223. I'd rather shoot a .223.
On the other hand, a PCC using a non meth-based cartridge is a dream to shoot. A 9mm or .45 is much more enjoyable for plinking duty.
And 9mm ARs can use preban 32-rd mags...
