Gov. Deval Patrick refuses to sign immigration program
A backpedaling Gov. Deval Patrick refused to sign onto a national security program — already in place in Boston — that would target illegal immigrants who have already been arrested, citing concerns about its effectiveness and potential for racial profiling.Ah, our good friend "racial profiling" again. Because, you know, there's such a problem with German street gangs running wild in the streets, right? What I don't get about this story is not that Patrick is pulling out of the program; that part is consistent with Patrick's continued support of the illegal alien community in MA. What confuses me is this:
“The Governor and I are dubious of the Commonwealth taking on the federal role of immigration enforcement,” wrote Patrick’s Secretary of Public Safety Mary Beth Heffernan in a letter to Immigration Customs Enforcement officials. “We are even more skeptical of the potential impact that Secure Communities could have on the residents of the Commonwealth. Through the community meetings we have held around the Commonwealth, residents have expressed concerns about racial profiling as a result of the program.”
Patrick said he would sign onto the program last December when the White House indicated participation was mandatory — but Patrick’s administration suggested that required involvement is up in the air.
Patrick was the one to sign on to this program, and now he wants out? Even further than that, the Øbama administration actually pushed an illegal alien initiative that makes sense? Commit a crime, get deported - never mind, of course, that they're all committing crimes by entering the country illegally, that is. But screw up while an illegal alien and get sent packing? That's so common sense it's scary - so how did Teleprompter Jesus latch onto it?
You know what would be funny? If Patrick was moving to the left to challenge Øbama in 2012. That would be simply divine - especially if he stepped down as MA governor for the challenge. Now, I don't think that's going to happen, of course, but it really does make you wonder why Patrick won't participate in a program that came out of the Øbama administration. From the article, Patrick's not the only one - NY and IL are pulling out, and CA is looking into it.
If the "Ø" is losing stalwarts like MA, NY and CA over what should be a slam-dunk, 2012 is going to get really interesting...
That is all.

2012 being interesting requires a Republican candidate worth voting for. Let me know when you find one.

Money quote:
"In a June 3 letter to US Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Patrick’s public safety secretary, Mary E. Heffernan, said that more than half of those deported under Boston’s program were not criminals. About 1 in 4 of those deported had been convicted of a serious crime."
I thought it was criminal to be an illegal alien. Silly me.
I had to laugh last week when Øbama's Mini-Me, Devol, popped up on TV to preen for the cameras because of the tornadoes; my wife involuntarily blurted: Is that Dink still in office? Why haven't we seen his mug in three years? Yeah, he's still in office, and he's still a Dink.
