What's Wrong With This Picture?

Just opened my latest shipment from MidwayUSA, and something jumped out at me as a mistake:

Oopsie!

Someone tossed a Ruger SR9C magazine into an LC9 holder. It's not a big mistake, or a particularly egregious one, and I'm certain that the return will be swift and painless. I went through my records - I've been buying from MidwayUSA for over six years now, more than three dozen orders, and this is the first error they've made on an order.

It could have been worse - it could have been a full-sized SR9 magazine, which would have made me a felon, being that they hold 17 rounds. It's more of an annoyance than anything - when I saw it was shipping, I was excited, as it meant more shooting time with the new LC9. I intend to get to the range this weekend (Weerd? You innerested?), and having a second magazine means more time shootin' and less time loadin'...

I'm just glad I didn't try stuffing this into the LC9 without looking!

That is all.

It looks more like an error at the Ruger plant than at MidwayUSA - I wouldn't expect anyone at Midway to notice one mislabeled magazine out of an entire box.

It still may be worth mentioning the bit about what could have happened to you if it had been a full-sized magazine, though. Shipments to states with such draconian restrictions like MA or CA should probably involve visual confirmation whenever possible. It would truly suck if you had to forfeit your collection because of someone else's error.

Also, you need to escape from MA - but we rag you enough on that as it is.

I have company around this weekend, but give me a call, I might be able to steal away for a few hours.

BTW I made an audible gasp when I thought it might have been a new 17 rounder.

Probably nothing bad would have happened, just tape the box back up and stamp "Return to Sender" but that's bad voodoo you don't need!

Amazing the number of ways we can become accidental felons.

I always fear leaving an empty case in the car after a match. If my wife drives with it, she certainly has legal exposure.

MAgunowner, I know its a bitch, but see if you can convince you wife to get her permit.

I suspect that a lot of the shady, often not prosecuted laws like possession of ammunition will probably gain SOME leeway if its the wife of a licensed owner in a car with both your names on the insurance. Still doesn't hurt for her to have her own permit.

Also if you guys can get the restrictions removed, its nice to know your wife is packing. I know I can't protect mine 24/7, and I really like seeing her come home safe every day.

Jake,

Oh, it may very well have been an error at Ruger - this may have had very little to do with MidwayUSA indeed.

I'm going to send in a note tonight about the error to Midway's customer service. Everything I have seen from them, everything I have heard, indicates they will make good ASAP. And rest assured I will comment on the mag capacity...

Weerd,

If you've got company that's fine. There will be plenty of opportunity to shoot the LC9... :)

Had it been a 17 rounder, it would have gone right to Dave in NH immediately. Not taking chances there.

MAgunowner,

Ditto. I never take the wife's car to the range, and I make sure my truck is completely devoid of anything remotely resembling ammo components - I drive my kids to school in the morning, and if one of them accidentally picked up a .22 casing in their shoe... MADNESS!

The last time Midway USA goofed up one of my mag orders, (Many years ago) they sent me 3 of the correct ones when informed of the mistake.

Not only that, they told me to keep the 2 incorrect ones that I'd gotten.

That meant that I had to buy a handgun that they'd fit into, but that's more of a feature than a bug.

Great Customer Service.

I've had exactly one mistake out of literally hundred of items from Midway. It was a $2 part that was missing from the order that they sent out ASAP. As I recall they spend way more on the shipping then the part cost. I would have been happy if they had put a stamp on it and sent it standard mail.

The solution is not get upset with the vendor or move out of Massachusetts*, but to work on changing Massachusetts*. Start with your own neighborhood and friends and progress from there. Demand specific performance from your elected representatives. They are supposed to represent you and your interests. If they do not, vigorously work to replace them with someone who will.

Remember, California* can be just as bad. The advice goes for them, also.

Suggestion: anonymously mail high capacity magazines to pro-gun ban elected officials in states that outlaw the magazines with the written notice that they are now criminals subject to arrest for possession of the magazines. Also anonymously mail letters to the local police authority informing them that the elected official is in possession of the contraband item and demand that they take appropriate action. Anonymously mail the local news outlets that the elected officials possess the contraband.

* substitute name of any applicable state.
